Editorial reviews

Sara Crewe had a privileged life until her father died, and she went from princess to pauper. Listeners will experience the drastic changes in Sara's life as narrator Virginia Leishman captures the treatment she receives from those around her before and after she becomes penniless. Particularly nasty is schoolmistress Miss Minchin, whose voice drips with contempt. Sara herself acts and sounds like a real princess particularly when she gives up her precious hot buns to a cold, homeless child. Leishman's delivery changes yet again as Sara's fortunes are altered for the better. Listeners will be enriched by this riches to rags, and then back to riches, story.

This timeless classic....

...is well narrated, making it a worthwhile investment. All girls whether young or young-at-heart, should read or listen to this book. It is my second favorite book from my own childhood (the first being Heidi), and I still find great pleasure in it. The movie done with Shirley Temple was cute, but the original story is best. All girls should be someone's little princess.

Sara Crew reminds us that being true to oneself is not always easy, but well worth the effort. Who we are and who we become is ultimately in our own hands. This is as true today as in the period written about.

Beautiful written and narrated

I have read this book several times over the years to myself and now to my children. I have listened to this audiobook several times as well and can’t help but become immersed in it. The narrator brings the story before my eyes and I can clearly see each line as it is read.
