About this listen

Jenny Weston moves home to Bear Falls, Michigan, to nurse her bruised ego back to health after a bitter divorce. But the idyllic vision of her charming hometown crumbles when her mother's little library is destroyed.

The next-door neighbor, Zoe Zola, a little person and Lewis Carroll enthusiast, suspects local curmudgeon Adam Cane. But when he's suddenly found dead in Zoe's fairy garden, all roads lead back to her. Jenny, however, believes Zoe is innocent, so the two women team up to find the true culprit, investigating the richest family in Bear Falls, interrogating a few odd townspeople, and delving into old, hidden transgressions - until another body turns up.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli's quaint and compelling series debut will delight cozy mystery fans new and old.

Shenanigans!!

This is the first book I've listened to by this author. It had me talking out loud to myself at the shenanigans that were going on. Poor Jenny has returned home after a divorce. Her mom is pretty great. Her Mom's neighbor Zoe however had me praying for strength. She gets herself into so much trouble that the Chief of Police Ed Warner is trying to pen all the murders on her. He looks for any and I mean any excuse to lock her up. Warner goes after Zoe so hard. He's building his case on a lot of circumstantial evidence. Zoe doesn't help her case by making poor decisions against the advice of sane people trying to help her.

Delightful!

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. The writing style a quirkiness was so different from books I normally listen to. But it was surprisingly delightful! Just enough intrigue to keep me interested and quirkiness to keep me entertained!

Couldn't get into the story

It felt like it was written (and read) for someone in their teams or teens. Nothing wrong with that, I just didn't find it appealing.

Great cozy

I enjoyed this tangled family/friends drama mystery. The fun but flawed characters seemed like real people. Will look for more by this author!

Great story

I greatly enjoyed the story, even got a few ideas for my own little free library from it.
The mystery was great & I enjoyed the characters. However Jenny's obsession with her old high-school boyfriend bugged me & made it hard for me to get through the story.
Narrator did a great job

interesting but needed more editing

I struggled through most of this. Zoe was an interesting character. Dora was not accurately representative of older women. The mystery was intriguing but the story bogged down with the odd quotations and distractions. The ending felt rushed and like connections were left out.

This book was frustrating…

It was long. It was slow. It was meandering. It was clunky. It was obvious.

But I loved the characters.
