About this listen

Fleeing some unsavory doings in her hometown of Charlotte, Jenna accepts her uncle's gracious invitation to stay with him in small-town Hokes Folly, North Carolina. In exchange, she'll help him out in his antiquarian bookstore. But soon after she arrives, Jenna finds her uncle's body crumpled at the base of the staircase between his apartment and the bookstore.

Before the tragedy even sinks in, Jenna learns that she's inherited almost everything her uncle owned: the store and the apartment as well as his not-so-meager savings and the payout from a life-insurance policy...which adds up to more than a million dollars. This is all news to Jenna - bad news, once the police get wind of her windfall. And it’s an ill wind indeed, as a second murder cements Jenna's status as the prime suspect in both deaths.

Jenna can hit the road again, taking her chances that she can elude trouble along the way, or she can stick it out in Hokes Folly, take over the bookstore, and try to sleuth out her uncle's killer. On the one hand, she's made some wonderful new friends, and she feels she can thrive in the genial small-town environment. On the other hand, trouble knows her address - and so does the killer, who is determined to write the final page of her story.

I Wish There Were More

As soon as the book ended, I went to buy the next one in the series. Alas, this is the only one :(
The book was great. Even more so now that I have discovered it is apparently the author’s first published work!! As always, I enjoyed Susan Boyce’s performance as well.
This was a great, clean cozy!!! So many of the cozies I read or listen to have social, political or ecological issues in them. I do not need that in my mystery reading. I read cozy mysteries to escape. If I want the other, I will read non-fiction, watch the news or just live my life. The characters drew me in and made me care about them. There were many plot twists. I did not see the guilty party “from a mile a way”. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. I am looking forward to the next book!

okay but slow

I could not handle the main character doing stupid things even though knowing it was wrong or dangerous. also policeman would not reveal information to suspect all throughout the book. will not pursue series, too cozy for me.

36 chapters-short & sweet

Loved the book. Short but concise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read a different book that was 50+ chapters which I found tedious. Will listen to more books by this author.

Small town mystery

the book has many characters and they all have their own voices mostly. is based in a small town and a whole lot of mystery is going around. the ending wasn't too much of a surprise but still a very good book

Good mystery.

Narrator wasn't fun to listen to.
She read it choppily, and very slow.
Story was good,

Entertaining

More like 3.5 stars. Interesting and entertaining enough to keep my interest, but not to the point where I just had to keep reading. It was easy to put down. I will say the whodunit part was surprising.
I would read another one in the series.
The narration was pretty good
