Excellent

Agnes awaiting for her detective boyfriend Alan to come to the high class restaurant for lunch. Finding a Special Service M15 body results of a execution murder in the ladies room.
Her taxi driver Ben asking if he had time for tea at the hotel where she previously been staying. Seeing a man enter now who’s face seemed familiar. Inquiring at the desk of who, an usual spelling of his last name.
While Alex is puzzling over the wallet contents the corner had given. A man with an unusual spelling of last name. Was he a Special Service M15 agent.
The plot flows as though one is talking with Agnes and the details of what has happened. Alan says stay out of it, but she has the time, curiosity and has helped before. A delightful series and one always enjoys knowing what Agnes is doing beside her love of Alan and shopping. Narration by De Oprah Balm added to the story, enjoyed and well done. A Simple Mystery

Jumping into this series with established characters made it difficult to really connect to any of them (especially the MC). They just weren’t that inspiring (and in fact were quite boring in most aspects). The mystery itself was somewhat interesting, but developed very slowly, so it was hard to listen to without wandering off every now and then. This was not helped by the narration as the narrator struggled to differentiate the various character voices so it was hard to jump back into the story when I did wander off.

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A bit disappointing

The premise of this story is quite interesting, A wealthy lady, Agnes, in a relationship with a senior detective in the police in the Tyneside area. A dead body in the ladies room in of a restaurant is the catalyst for everything that follows, again interesting and quite promising.

Unfortunately the whole story was spoiled by the way that Agnes withheld important information from the police, namely her partner Alan. No normal upright citizen would keep things from the police, and especially someone who lives with a senior police officer, it is an offence that she could be jailed for.

There were other silly mistakes, for example it refers to 'detectives' being sent to the crime scene, the correct term is that police officers were sent.

On the other hand I thought that the characters were well written and interesting, and the way that the area around the river Tyne was described was well done.

I realise that this is a light mystery, but there has to be some degree of realism, and I just couldn't believe in this story, which is a shame because some parts of it are very good. I also felt that it could do with some editing, I think that it was at least 30 minutes too long and some parts could be pared back to make it more focussed.

The Twists! What a Ride! Go Agnes, go!

When a trip to the loo for a lipstick refresh results in the discovery of a GENT … no longer among the living, Agnes finds herself embroiled in another investigation! THIS time, to DCI Johnson’s horror, Agnes decides to bring a friend along for the ride! I have to say right here, right now, that “A Mystery on Tyneside” is stunning! THIS fabulously written story had me alternately laughing at the antics of Agnes and Sandra, (her friend who’s been bitten by the “investigation bug”), and perching on the edge of my chair, fearing for their safety as they dealt with the VARIOUS nefarious in this beautifully plotted mystery thriller! Yes, I DID say various, as in … more … than … one! I’m not giving details, I don’t want to ruin this brilliant journey for anyone! Trust our author! Everything is explained, all is clear, AND, believe me when I say that the journey to resolution held me enthralled, laughing, worrying, and perhaps, wanting to twist the ear of a character or two along the way! As you get there, you’ll understand and perhaps agree! I know that this one grabbed me, held me, and entertained me from GO! The narration was fantastic, truly bringing the author’s vision alive as I listened, enjoying every single second of this presentation! Five perfect stars. I loved it! Go Agnes go!

I enjoyed this mystery

I was not drawn in immediately when I started listening. However, I continued with it and enjoyed the story. Listening to Agnes and Alan solving the murders was interesting. Agnes seems to always be in the middle of the crisis that occurs and gets help from a friend. I received a copy for an honest review.

Great Mystery

This book is a well written mystery. The narrator does a fantastic job with the characters. I've listened to these out of order, but it doesn't distract from the story. I started with the first book and jumped to the 4th book with no problem.

Good Cozy Mystery

Not a predictable ending. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and the performance. Agnes is a great character that is easy to follow through the series.
