Reissued for the 40th anniversary of the Oscar-winning, Sissy Spacek-starring film of the same name, Coal Miner's Daughter recounts Loretta Lynn's astonishing journey to become one of the original queens of country music. Loretta grew up dirt poor in the mountains of Kentucky, she was married at 13 years old, and became a mother soon after. At the age of 24, her husband, Doo, gave her a guitar as an anniversary present. Soon, she began penning songs and singing in front of honky-tonk audiences and eventually made her way to Nashville, securing her place in country music history.

"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

Story
Thelonious Monk is the critically acclaimed, gripping saga of an artist's struggle to "make it" without compromising his musical vision. It is a story that, like its subject, reflects the tidal ebbs and flows of American history in the 20th century. To his fans, he was the ultimate hipster; to his detractors, he was temperamental, eccentric, taciturn, or childlike. His angular melodies and dissonant harmonies shook the jazz world to its foundations, ushering in the birth of "bebop" and establishing Monk as one of America's greatest composers.

Story
The oldest daughter of revered composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein offers a rare look at her father on the centennial of his birth in a deeply intimate and broadly evocative memoir. The composer of On the Town and West Side Story, chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic, television star, humanitarian, friend of the powerful and influential, and the life of every party, Leonard Bernstein was an enormous celebrity during one of the headiest periods of American cultural life, as well as the most protean musician in 20th-century America.

Story
With more than 90 million records sold and eight Grammy Awards throughout its 40-year history, Earth, Wind & Fire has staked its claim as one of the most successful, influential, and beloved acts in music history. Now, for the first time, its dynamic lead singer, Philip Bailey, chronicles the group's meteoric rise to stardom and his own professional and spiritual journey. Never before had a musical act crossed multiple styles and genres with a quixotic blend of astrology, universalism, and Egyptology as Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) did when it exploded into the public's conscience during the 1970s.

No longer dismissed as relics of the hippie era, a new generation has lionized the Dead for creating a culture that paved the way for social networking, free music swapping, and the uncompromising anticorporate attitude of indie rock. Now, fifty years after the band first began changing rock 'n' roll both sonically and psychically, So Many Roads paints the most vivid portrait yet of the Grateful Dead, one of the most enduring institutions in American music and culture.

Henry Winkler, launched into prominence as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant, funny, and widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case, he’s really just grateful to be here), Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you.

Hearing it is even better than reading it!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! I've already read the book, but after hearing Carole King read parts of it I decided that I wanted to hear her read the whole book. I'm so glad I did. She reads beautifully, sings bits of songs, imitates voices. Highly recommended.

A memoir for any fan
If you could sum up A Natural Woman in three words, what would they be?
Reminiscent, Real, Relevant
What does Carole King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
To hear this story in Carole's own voice was moving. Her history is my history. Each moment, each song brings back a flood of memories. It's so interesting to hear what was going on in her life while remembering what was going on in my life at the same time.
Any additional comments?

Love her!
Truth is, there was a lot of time spent on subjects I believe most of us are not that interested in, but are part of her life. Like a lawsuit she was part of. But when she talks about meeting Paul & Linda McCartney, or other musicians, she held my attention. Hers is an amazing life! And what a talent! We’re all blessed by the music she’s given us!

Really good for Carole King fans
I am a fan of Carole King which is why I was so looking forward to reading/listening to her book. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because although I appreciate her wanting to write and ‘own’ her own story unfortunately, she’s not the best narrator. Also, Carole King is a VERY, VERY find-the-silver-lining kind of person and although she went through several very difficult times in her life she seems to spin them into something good. I suppose that may be a good way to live but it got a bit sugary for me. I’m glad I read it and I think her fans should as well.

I Like Her EVEN more now !
Would you consider the audio edition of A Natural Woman to be better than the print version?
It is wonderful to hear Carole King tell her own story with her wonderful rhythms and accent.
Any additional comments?
Carole's honesty and openness is brave and refreshing and her unique perspective as a woman who lived through the 50's and 60's music scenes and then, wrote the book on the 70's makes for a fascinating story. Her life story includes her struggles with her desire to stay true to herself and those she loves - she keeps it real - and that is an inspiration as well. Music history buffs will learn stuff, too!

Had higher expectations
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to see "Beautiful - the Carole King story". If it was not the best musical I have ever seen, then it was up at the top. In the lobby they were selling this book. Unfortunately, the book does not live up to the greatness of the musical. The musical was just the beginning portion of her life. I grew up with her music, and the play brought me to tears. Altho Carole does sing a line or two here and there in the book, the quality wasn't there. I was disappointed.

Carole's heartfelt words come to life in this inspiring memoir.
preface - I enjoy listening to audiobooks because they allow me to multitask (driving, exercising, cleaning etc.) BUT I normally feel that I would have got more out of the book if I just read it.
This is the ONLY book where I felt that listening to it was more fulfilling than reading it. Because Carole reads it her self, it has a wonderfully intimate feel.
This is a MUST listen book that profiles one of the most talented, intelligent and caring woman of her generation.

Loved it!
Would you consider the audio edition of A Natural Woman to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I chose this audiobook because I wanted to hear her story, and she did not disappoint! I first saw Carole perform live in the early 1970's when she came to my town. I had attended the event to see my favorite performer who was James Taylor. I had never heard of Carole King. I was bowled over by her performance that night. I purchased the Tapestry album and listened over and over and over again--I loved it! To this day, her music moves me. Her songs, especially the ones co-written with her first husband in the 60's, have stood the test of time.
Which character – as performed by Carole King – was your favorite?
Carole
