About this listen
In the time it takes to create a single beat of a heart, 75 percent of the population drops dead. Within hours, another 20 percent succumb, leaving only a speck of human life remaining.
Believing they are victims of a preliminary act of war and eventual invasion, a group of survivors trek across a barren United States following a radio signal. The simple plan was to band with others to fight and defend their homeland. However, their journey not only brings them together with other survivors but also brings them a chilling truth. What had happened to their country was not a prelude to invasion, but rather the groundwork of global extermination.
The enemy is not what they expect.

Story
Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive. This was no ordinary terror attack. The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland.

Story
In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world - as they know it - apart.

He'd been mine - until I made the biggest mistake of my life. I thought if I put enough time and distance between us, my heart could forget him. I thought wrong. Drake Foster owns my heart, my entire being. He always will. As the pieces of what happened to us begin to fall into place, I realize our relationship had been sabotaged. We'd been pawns in a game neither of us knew we were playing, and our relationship was the price we paid. Now, we must find our way together before it's too late.

Absolutely loved this book!
I didn't realize I had the speed at 1.2 instead of normal 1.0 while listening but it makes a huge difference in comedy relief!
Loved the narrator who did all the characters hilariously! Of course the higher speed probably contributed to me laughing my butt off at parts.
Storyline was fun and interesting and loved the change with the sci fi theme vs standard apocalypse theme.
I really enjoyed this story and the narrator. It was definitely worth the listen.
This series continues in the Last Mile series in Kindle only: Earth Abounds (book 3) continues from the Path to Utopia while "Nova" book 2 is more of a prequel. I'm heading over to re-read both again!

Decent Post-Apocalypse Tale
What did you love best about A Path to Utopia?
I am writing this review a few days after listening and I am having a little trouble remembering exactly what I liked so much about the story. That's unusual for me so I guess that says something. It did not blow my socks off but it was well told and entertaining. If you are really in to post apocalypse fiction put this one on the list. It isn't a struggle to get through and it isn't too heavy. The mystery of why the world has ended (nearly everyone in the U.S. just drops dead one day) is what I found most engaging. I will probably listen to the sequel but it isn't on my list of must-have-cannot-wait listens. Overall it is probably a 3.75.

Superb!
This book was very entertaining from start to finish. It was imaginative and often amusing. I do think that there could at least have been a sequel, there are so many places that this book could have been taken. Great listen all round!

Sound issues
In the attempt to play all the characters, the narrator’s voice drops really low, then really loud. It was hard to adjust a volume to hear the whole thing.

Her worst book yet!!!!!
I have read so many of Miss Druga books, but this one did not make the cut. I don’t know what to say about this book. From the aliens, to the buried creatures, to the second and third wave, to baby Martha, to the weird relationship between Jen and Robbie. This book was all over the place! So many unnecessary characters. And HOW did the molecules from the virus manifest into the monsters??
Buds character seemed like he was taken directly from Zapp Brannigan from Futurama. And Moss talked like Yoda the entire book. No no, no no no!
