Publisher's summary

Between grad school and multiple jobs, Naledi Smith doesn't have time for fairy tales . . . or the patience for constant emails claiming she's betrothed to an African prince. Sure. Right. Delete!

As a former foster kid, she's learned that the only things she can depend on are herself and the scientific method, and a silly email won't convince her otherwise.

Prince Thabiso is the sole heir to the throne of Thesolo, shouldering the hopes of his parents and his people. At the top of their list? His marriage. Ever dutiful, he tracks down his missing betrothed. When Naledi mistakes the prince for a pauper, Thabiso can't resist the chance to experience life - and love - without the burden of his crown. The chemistry between them is instant and irresistible, and their flirty friendship quickly evolves into passionate nights. But when the truth is revealed, can a princess in theory become a princess ever after?

Editor's Pick

Hey, fairy tales do come true
"Have you ever heard of the woman who married the Ethiopian prince after meeting him in a nightclub in DC? Go on, google it, I’ll wait. My point is, this story about Naledi being a lost African princess seems pretty realistic to me, even if she doesn’t believe it herself. I love the way Alyssa Cole tells the story, too—all the elements add up to be The Story We Needed. And I especially love the way Karen Chilton narrates Naledi and her rational charm (she’s a scientist)."

Well crafted

Ms Cole made a plit that seemed implausible come to life with a force of storytelling that captures you and folds in on you. Ms Chilton I can listen to story after story.

Surprisingly complex!

Most romance novels have very few surprises- you know where they're going and more or less how they'll get there and you're just there to enjoy the ride. A Princess in Theory has the expected elements (and executes them well) but adds twists, turns, mice, donkeys, and unexpected intrigue. Not what I expected- in the best way!

I Loved It

OMG how I loved this book. I just finished it and I'm seriously considering listening to it again before going to my next book. The reviews advised that this book was great and I totally agree. A romantic fairytale with people of color is just what the Dr ordered. This book was so we written and the narrator was perfect for this story. I loved it from the beginning to the end. I think I'll listen to it again (right now).

I liked it ;)

A believable fairy tale. The characters are likable and the narration is decent. An enjoyable listen while working and cleaning. I would recommend to people who loves a good love story about destined love.

Love Karen Chilton's narration.

Started off as a very normal case of mistaken identity romance. Mystery section could have been enhanced with a little more background on the minister of finance. father had zero character development.. no neat fairytale ending. Really liked it, but wanted more.

So very good

I absolutely loved this story! I enjoy it when romance stories switch between the man's and woman's POVs. Often, though, I find the man's POV lacking. Well not with Alyssa Cole! She blows both characters out of the water. Karen Chilton was an amazing narrator. A modern fairy tale you will not regret reading! Their love was passionate, compassionate, steamy, and gentle. A really enjoyable read.

Fantastic storyline! The issues that surfaced in each character’s life was a great example of how much goes wrong in a short time especially when you feel things are finally looking better! Overcoming those issues showed a testament of strength. I loved that the storyline was filled with love, angst, betrayal, friendships and forgiveness! On the other hand, the ending could have been better or more developed! Overall it was a great story!
