About this listen

Before you understand it's happening, obsession takes hold.

Judd Farnon had no choice but to risk death in escaping prison. If he stayed, he was a dead man.

An old boarding house where if you are honest, no questions are asked offers him the start of a new life.

While trying to forget his past and the events that put him in jail in the first place, Judd finds more and more people are showing up in his room at the boarding house claiming it as their own. If this wasn't odd enough, the town itself has a tragic history, and a street of open-air jail cells does not sit well with a former convict.

When a murder is committed, all eyes fall on him.

And yet, Judd can't bring himself to leave. But why?

If you love atmospheric horror tinged with dread, you'll love A Shaded Room.

Get it now...but don't stay too long!

A good storyline

Two things conspired here to lessen my enjoyment of the story. The first one was that I really disliked the main character. And yes, I know, for the story to work he needs to be this aimless, listless person, but still... unlikeable.

The second one was the narrator, who failed to instil emotion to the story.

It's not a bad book, it's entertaining and I liked the concept but I didn't love it :(

Baskerville Book Reviews

The majority of this book is rather boring. It just feels like a day in the life of the protagonist. Every now and then, something odd or questionable will happen, but overall it doesn’t really get interesting until the very end. It’s unfortunate because the ending got me excited, only for the book to end a couple of minutes later and my excitement died with it.

I wouldn’t say I dislike the book, but at the same time, it’s hard to give a recommendation on it. This is one of those books I only recommend if you can get it cheap enough.

The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. Most of all, the protagonist. He lends his voice well and makes him feel like a real person.

Another great book by European Douglas

After fighting with the wrong man in prison, jet has to escape then he does. He finds a room to rent in a job at the local mill. He even start hanging around with a local crowd at the local bar. Everything would be great with the exception of these people who keep showing up acting as if Jeff is in their room and not a zone. Despite this jet starts believing he may be OK, But unfortunately he isn’t the only one with the pass and his demons are not The only one with a pay us and his demons are not the only one he’s going to have to face. This is the second book I have read by European Douglas and I must say I love his books. He has a style that reminds me of 80s horror and I love it. I highly recommend this book if you do love horror then you definitely love this book! Again I must say I think the narrator‘s name is Peter whatever his name is I love this dude I love the way he read the book is such a calm demeanor I think he’s a great narrator.

Creepy great story

I loved this super creepy story. The story played like a movie in my mind as I listened to the narrator's voice and imagined the scenes and details the author described through well written words.

A well-written story from a very good author

A Shaded Room: A Horror Novel, my second read from author European P. Douglas. December seemed to be my month for new authors and January is to continuing the trend. A well written, entertaining read, with intriguing, well-developed characters that I read in a single setting. 5-hours 11-minutes/208-pages. Peter Kuhn's excellent narration adds to a good book's excellence. “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Interesting story

This was an interesting story. The narrator was not my favorite as there was something about his voice that I didn't like. This was a story about choices we make in life and the consequences as a result of those choices. It had a nice horror twist about a room in a boarding house that wasn't a normal room. This was entertaining and kept my attention. Makes you really wonder what is behind some of the choices we make in life.

Entertaining

The author did a great job of writing a story that grabbed my attention and kept me listening. There were times that the story seemed to drag a little. The narrator did a good job with reading the story, however did not seem invested in the story.

I received a copy of the Audiobook and am leaving my honest review.

Very entertaining offering from European P Douglas

European P Douglas has crafted a horror story that keeps the reader wondering just what is going on until the end. While there were several times I believed I knew where the story was going, it turned out each time that I truly had no idea until the author revealed the twist. Peter Kuhn’s narration brought each character to life and made the story come to life. I received an audio book review copy through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review

A different kind of Horror story

This was an interesting read. The author created a story that draws you in & then sneaks up on you. I thought the narrator did a great job with this story. Judd ended up in prison and knew he would die if he remained. he decided to risk it and managed to escape. He had a boarding house to stay at that asked few questions. He did some work for the owner & also looked for a job. Alas things are not always what they seem. Strange things began to happen and then the story gets very interesting. A great read.
