I finished it

… I was glad when it was done. I’ve just recently heard of Josephine Tey and particularly enjoyed Brett Farrar. I’ve read one other Alan Grant book which I liked but this one wasn’t her best work. I didn’t care for the narrator. She was either screeching or I couldn’t tell who was talking. I just downloaded a collection of JTs works and hoping I enjoy them.

Very good mystery

Another fine mystery with Josephine Tey's sense of humor and Alan Grant's detective sense of timing, an altogether nifty British mystery. Enjoy!

Not a best choice

One is accustom to enjoy a humoristic, even sarcadtic undertone in British literature. This book is rather boring, the plot is too inplosable and very untishemitic, uncomfortably so!

Read by a robot

An excellent mystery read by someone who is saying the words in the right order. What a pleasure these Josephine Tey mysteries could be, read by someone expressive!

Masterpiece of Detective Fiction

I've read this wonderful work several times. Plot, characters, style - all superb and timeless. This audiobook does Josephine Tey's masterpiece, which reset the bar for successful British who dun its, full justice. Note: I set the play speed at 1.15 because I found the narrator's delivery slow, but that is to my American ear which prefers a brisk narration. The narrator was meticulous.

What a great writer!

It’s too bad that Audible doesn’t mention that this book was written in 1936! That explains the politically incorrect references to the Jewish character, but it certainly isn't a main part of the story. Her cultural observations and characters are still amazingly, contemporary and relevant overall. I loved the narrator and quirky characters. I’m going to continue and listen to every one of Josephine Tey's books after this one!

Loved it, well thought through and amusing.

Please give us more Josephine Tey. She really is one of the best there is.

Not my favorite, but…

Not my favorite, but… I love Josephine Tey’s writing. So, well this isn’t her best it’s still pretty good. Good reader, worth the time.

Good performance

Storyline was not as interesting as Tey’s other books. Characters were weak to the point that they were one-dimensional and boring.

Didn’t get very far

I am deeply offended by the racist sentiment. I’m scratching this author off my list.
