About this listen

This is a summary of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. Meditations is essentially a scrapbook of thoughts written over a 19-year period; it’s not ordered and it repeats itself frequently as ideas reoccurred to the author at different times. For this reason, it can be hard for a casual reader to extract the myriad messages contained within. This summary helps in that by interpreting Meditations and reducing it from around 50,000 words down to 4,400. While it has been interpreted, the author has done his best not to embellish it.

If you ever wish to read the original, the modern Gregory Hays translation on Amazon is excellent as are the two public domain translations: A. S. L. Farquharson, 1944, and George Long, 1862, which are available for free on Wikisource. You can also find my narration on Audible.

Very Short and to the point. Perfect for anyone looking to improve their character and way of life. 10/10 would recommend to ANYONE.

I listen to this 4 times a week

The only thing I would change is adding chapter marks. I bought this after enjoying the YouTube version numerous times & feeling Mr. Homer was worthy of additional compensation for this effort (I am also a Patreon supporter of his). Also purchasing this means that I can tell my Alexa to play it whenever I need the reminders (multiple times per day as the holidays come on, apparently). I also appreciate the focus being decentered from some of the topics I don't necessarily want to be discussing with my small children regularly. While the vocabulary in here might be a bit advanced for younger audiences at times, there is nothing that jumps out as really inappropriate topics for even young elementary children to be exposed to & fostering their awareness of ways of coping with life.

This is now the intro to Stoicism that I am recommending widely. Thank you so much for your efforts, Mr. Homer.

chapter marks would be nice

It was a good lesson. Really good to hear great advice on how to be a good person. You can apply what you learn here in the workplace, or in your personal life.

10/10 boils it down to clear and understanding points of view. Big fan of the summary
