About this listen

Acclaimed author Lois Lowry's first novel, A Summer to Die is a poignant and perceptive tale of love and tragedy.

Meg isn't thrilled when she gets stuck sharing a bedroom with her older sister Molly. The two of them couldn't be more different, and it's hard for Meg to hide her resentment of Molly's beauty and easy popularity. But now that the family has moved to a small house in the country, Meg has a lot to accept.

Just as the sisters begin to adjust to their new home, Meg feels that Molly is starting up again by being a real nuisance. But Molly's constant grouchiness, changing appearance, and other complaints are not just part of a new mood. And the day Molly is rushed to the hospital, Meg has to accept that there is something terribly wrong with her sister. That's the day Meg's world changes forever. Is it too late for Meg to show her true feelings?

Nice story

Made me cry. Of course. It was a sweet sad story full of nice people. Heartwarming I guess you’d call it. Despite the sadness.

Heartwarming!

I first read the hardcopy of this book the summer I turned 12 years old or so. I always remembered it. I am 40 now and was soo excited when I learned it was an audiobook! I fell in love with this story all over again! It was a great throwback listen!

fantastic book

The narration was excellent. The characters seemed alive. Sad but not depressing. Uplifting and positive ending.

Eloquent as always

As always Ms. Lowry has a gentle way of bringing you to the point of her stories. It’s a slow moving mourning that you know is there but like the character’s you are in a sort of denial. Some really memorable lines and concepts in this book.

I have read many (all?) of Lowry's other books and taught Number the Stars and The Giver many times in my class. I had never heard of this one..her first. so glad I found it. what a sweet touching story of love and family.
