About this listen

In honor of Madeleine L'Engle's 100th Birthday, fans are invited to enjoy this archival audiobook, originally recorded in 1996 and newly restored! Listen to the voice of the author as Madeleine L'Engle reads A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

Fifteen-year-old Charles Wallace and the unicorn Gaudior undertake a perilous journey through time in a desperate attempt to stop the destruction of the world by the mad dictator Madog Branzillo. They are not alone in their quest. Charles Wallace's sister, Meg - grown and expecting her first child, but still able to enter her brother's thoughts and emotions by "kything" - goes with him in spirit. But in overcoming the challenges, Charles Wallace must face the ultimate test of his faith and will, as he is sent within four people from another time, there to search for a way to avert the tragedy threatening them all.

A Swiftly Tilting Planet is the third title in the Time Quintet, which consists of A Wrinkle in Time (a Newbery Medal winner), A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time.

The story was amazing as all of the previous stories have been.Having it narrated by the author was such a special treat. I listened to it with the little boy I care for. He seems to enjoy the story and picked for the ride home everytime.

Like visiting with old friends

This, the third book in the Wrinkle in Time series, delves deeply into the ancient sorrow of evil and human struggles for power.

So timely

I liked this narration before all the more commercial ones. Sometimes you never know if it will work. And of course I have always loved the book.

Narration by the author

The narration is flat, and lacking any personality what so ever. The book has no real connection to any of the previous ones in the series, and has the most ridiculous plot that for some reason requires this same family to solve a nuclear weapons crisis. None of the characters just like in book 2, seemed to have learned or retained any knowledge of overcoming difficulties from previous books. The last 3 chapters of this audio performance are incredibly confusing because the narrator never changes her voice to sound different for any character. It's the exact same monotone delivery through the whole thing.

Just an awful, awful experience.

awful from beginning to end

I thought the author's narration would enhance the story. Unfortunately I realized by chapter 2 that it did the exact opposite for me. But Audible customer service rocks & refunded my credit so I could exchange this version for one with another narrator! Love the series and can't wait to start listening to the better narrated version right now!

Not a fan of the author's narration
