About this listen

Two months after the explosive and unexpected ending to A Sudden Outbreak of Magic, Jeroan learns all about magic at Dr. Azure's mysterious training center. Meanwhile, Kelley can't even leave her hotel room in Dubuque without a chaperone.

When people they care about start disappearing, and people they didn't think they should care about - like Dr. Azure - get attacked by rogue magic-users, Jeroan and Kelley must work together. Before this growing epidemic of magic turns deadly.

Unfortunately, they learn too late that magic no longer works properly, and they suffer some serious side effects whenever they use it.

The fantasy series for all ages continues!

Magic and Mayhem..

Any additional comments?

This story picks up two months after the first book ends with Jeroan, who chose to study

magic at Michael Azure’s center.

His twin sister Kelley, is still in Dubuque.

Jeroan, Kelley, Polly along with a few other characters were engaging.

Overall, another action and suspense novel.

Mike Alger did well with the narration.

A great addition to the series

Would you listen to A Wild Epidemic of Magic again? Why?

YES! It is a great story, and while it doesn't fully answer all of the questions it rises, it builds a great conflict and sets up the series for a fun/exciting adventure on the way to the resolution. It built on the first book well and allowed for good growth among the characters. The flow of the story was great (unlike my ability to keep a coherent thought)

Who was your favorite character and why?

In this book it was Paulie. She is such a punk to everyone, but clearly cares for her friends and family. She adds a fun and unique perspective to the problems that the magicians come across.

Which character – as performed by Mike Alger – was your favorite?

Gram, she is such a hilarious character who needs a certain sense about her and Mike Alger was able to do this.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed quite a bit during this book. I was drawn in and while I didn't want to stop the book so that I could find out what happened but I also found myself putting off finishing it because I didn't want it to end. I will DEFINITELY be listening to the third book. :)

Any additional comments?

This is such a fun and different aspect to a magical series. I really enjoy it.

Add to that the fact that it is a young set of twins who are of a minority, having a coming of age tale where they are the heroes is so great. Its extra amazing because their ethnicity isn't often brought up (or tossed in your face) rather you see it as they do when they recognize others for being the same or different. I am happy that Michael Jasper is able to give young adults this story.

Magic 'cured?'

This series is good but it's not great. It requires you to suspend any sense of reality or possibilities.
The characters ok most interested in are the outliers, not the main characters. Kelly was our main character & in book 2 we get her brother. I find him to be annoying & his self absorbed personality is a bit much at times. While the parents didn't exist (for the most part) in book 1 now they show back up. I don't want to spoil it. It would be a great fantasy series for young adults. Maybe even teens. I have book 3 as well but I may give it a few weeks before I listen to it.

Contagious Magic Book 2

This second installment of the Contagious Magic has a much better narrator than the first one. He brings the story to life. There are adventures, twists, and new characters being introduced.

The main character on this book is Jeroan. He just up and left his family on book 1. He is staying in a training center learning about magic.

There are several ups as downs on this story. Kelley doesn't know how Jeroan is for months but circumstances bring them together again.
Magic is not working properly and they have to figure out why.

The story was slow in the beginning and I found myself loosing interest. I did get through all of it but had to take several breaks.

What a difference a good narrator makes

Any additional comments?

Really good addition to the series. So much more enjoyable and entertaining than the first book. The story is moving along getting more involved, interesting and becoming more developed with plenty of magical twists & turns and adventure. It was also more fun than the first book. This installment held my complete attention unlike the first one.

What a difference narrator can make. Mike Alger did a great job narrating the story. Nice voice. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good delivery. Really good character voices. He was able to bring the characters and story to life. Very enjoyable. He changed the whole tone and feel of the story. He really should go back and redo the first book in the series. It would make a huge difference for the series and the author.

I do have to say that if this narrator had been narrating the first book the constant references to race would have come across a lot different and as the author probably intended them to. Not as they did. In this installment the tone and delivery made all the difference.

Jeroan has decided to part ways with his sister and study magic with Dr. Azure. He soon discovers things are not what he thought they would be.

Kelley and Jeroan must find a way work together if they are going to solve what is happening to everyone. As well as bringing back the characters from the first story this installment adds some new, fun and interesting characters. Alexander is still a great character, who wouldn't want to have a dragon that has a few of his own tricks.

The Plot Thickens

Kelly from the first book is stuck with constant people around her. Jerone is the main character now but the secondary characters are no slouches either. He and Kelley must work together to not only defeat the forces against them but to find out why the magic is not working properly. This book is also filled with lots of plot twist that keep you listening so you will discover what is at the end. I like this one better than the first one although both are pretty good. I am on to book three since this one left me hanging. I don't like that. I had another book to listen to before getting to this one. I got this book via audiobook boom.

Story struggled a little

What does Mike Alger bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was definitely a lot better than the first narrator and did a great job with the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This story line seemed to be lacking something, I'm not sure but it left me wondering if I wanted to listen to the 3rd book.

Not as Good as First Book, but Still Enjoyable

I liked this book but honestly thought the first one was better. I read a review where someone said he listened to this book first, but I don’t see how that would work. I really think you need to listen to the first book to really get the whole storyline.
This book had a few story shortcomings. I liked the book as a whole but thought there were way more holes and gaps than the first book.

The narrator for the first book did a good job, but I thought the narrator for this book was even better. He really did a great job and the editing was much better as well.

I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.
