About this listen

James Patterson's explosive debut in the young adult market is guaranteed to create legions of new fans for this beloved, multimillion-selling author.

Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman, Angel, and Maximum: Six kids who are pretty normal in most ways, except that they're 98% human, 2% bird. They grew up in cages, living like rats, but now they're free. Riding the wind, their wings are an amazing gift...and yet, their world can morph into a nightmare in a single instant. For when the bloodthirsty Erasers, half men, half-wolves genetically engineered by sick and sinister scientists, kidnap little Angel, the Flock embarks on a rescue mission that will change them forever.

From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of the New York City subway system, 14-year-old Max leads her five feisty "family" members on a journey full of nonstop action, adventure, and soul-seeking, not to mention a little bit of saving the world on the side!

As always Paterson has given us a thrilling book. It also is very well read. The only thing wrong with this book is that it is incomplete. Paterson has left us litterally up in the air, with no ending for the kids in sight. It is great that the main character has discovered her world, but there are just too many questions left unaswered for the reader. If you can stand to be left praying for a sequel to finish the story, then don't pass this one up. THERE HAD BETTER BE A SEQUAL.

Incomplete but an A anyway

My 11 yr old son read this book in a day, so I picked up the audiobook to try to keep up with him, wanting to have conversations with him on the material he reads. It was not surprising that Patterson did a great job, and wrote an easy-read action novel for tween readers. I love it when - especially my sons - get hooked on a book and series. enjoyed the listen!

The book had a wonderful storyline up to the end. After that he leaves you hanging. I hope there is a sequel!

Great but Needs Closure

This was one of my favorite books as a youth and I recently thought I’d give it a listen to nostalgia. It was just as good as I remembered although, the narration had music in it every now and then which I felt was unnecessary. Other than that, great read/listen!

It was amazing and very creative. I like how Much the author Into the book and how many Amazing details There were just just made the book more Awesome. If I was a judge of a book competition and I had to pick world's best book I would pick this book as the world's best book. I really really want them to make this book into a movie and All the other Maximum ride books Into a movie. Maximum Ride is the typical story of an older girl that takes care of the younger "siblings". (A lot like "The Boxcar Children") I downloaded this book because I saw a lot of positive reviews, and I was sorely disappointed. It is very possible that I would have enjoyed an unabridged version, because the story seemed a little choppy. The jokes about bodily functions will keep the kids entertained, but from an adult perspective, they get old fast. (My husband only got through 20 minutes) The ending was abrupt and unsatisfying. It seemed as if the author had a deadline to meet and released the book before he was finished.

A book for pre-teens
