About this listen

A fresh-faced journalist. A double murder. Is revenge coming home for the holidays?

December, 1919. Clever crime reporter Lillie Mead hoped to celebrate a peaceful Christmas in the English countryside. But when a close friend's colleague turns up dead, Lillie knows there'll be little festive spirit until she unwraps this mystery.

Following the clues to the wintery Scottish Highlands, she hopes to stop the killer cold before the next body hits the snow. But after she connects the victims to a clandestine wartime committee, she puts herself firmly in the murderer's sights.

Will Lillie solve the case and survive to see the New Year, or will this Christmas be her last?

A Willful Grievance is the second book in the Lillie Mead Historical Mystery series. If you like wintery English countrysides, juicy murder mysteries, and surprising revenge plots, then you’ll love Lisa Zumpano’s holiday whodunit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. I had an inkling of the “who dunnit” by the end but that didn’t ruin it at all, as the details were the fun and mysterious part. The narration was very good though not a great American accent but I don’t mind that. The plot was engaging and easy to follow without a lot of superfluous violence or romance. All in all, thoroughly engaging and I will look at more from this author.

Fascinating and engaging story w good narration

(increasing the speed to 1.4X made for better listening).

I definitely want to hear more in this series: easy listening, with an interesting mystery; and, thankfully no women are subjected to brutal misconduct after they are kidnapped. (Lillie is a liberated woman in her era, which I thought would have attracted more animosity. )
I wonder if Daniel will show up again, somewhere, in a later story?

Extra: Some cursing and using God's name as an expletive. No f-bombs. Abandoned children, orphans, a policeman has O.C.D.

Interesting mystery, clean content

I find novels with some historical inferences very interesting. I still find the characters fascinating.
