About this listen

In this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller, a burglar, Luther Whitney, breaks into a Virginia mansion, and witnesses a brutal crime involving the president—a man who believes he can get away with anything. Featuring a Preface Read by David Baldacci.

In a heavily guarded mansion in the Virginia countryside, professional burglar and break-in artist Luther Whitney is trapped behind a two-way mirror. What he witnesses destroys his faith not only in justice, but in all he holds dear.

What follows is an unthinkable abuse of power and criminal conspiracy, as a breathtaking cover-up is set in motion by those appointed to work for one of the most important people in the world: the President of the United States.

Loved the book and the characters

Loved the story, I saw a comment here on Scott Brick (negative comment), and I respect your opinion, but I must strongly disagree. I thought he did an excellent job, especially at the end. I have always loved his narration. I strongly recommend this book!

Least Favorite!

I love most of the books by David Baldacci, however, this is not one of my favorites. Parts of the novel had me on the edge of my seat, and another part of it, I just wanted him to finish the story! It dragged on and on, at times. I was glad when it was finally over. All this being said, this was his first novel. He definitely improved over time with his other novels. Mr. Baldacci is one of my favorite authors. And Scott Brick, he is one of the best narrators; he performed wonderfully in this novel!

The greed of people who have to answer to ones rules, the weak, who submit to others wills. The innocent dreamers ....

I waited patiently through the first half of the book as the brave but scared actors played and lost, their lives, by the immoral and corrupt ruined their lives, waiting to see who of them would have the backbone to stand up and say enough is enough. And through great satisfaction, I watched them strengthen their resolve to right the many wrongs which had been done to them. Lots of twists and turns in the book .

Still relevant

I very much enjoyed this book. The only thing that dated it was the technology used by the characters, but that could be easily updated.

JUST WONDERFUL

I like most Baldacci novels. This one, read by the wonderful Scott Brick, is, however, just the very best, and is among the best books I have ever read. It is gripping from the first sentence to last. Enjoy!

Great read for a long ride!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, great read. I had already the John Puller Series, and was looking for more of the same, when I found out about this book. A reader had said it was one of the authors best.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

If you are traveling and have a long road ahead of you, this read we'll have you sitting in the driveway when you get there waiting to hear the end!

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

The lawyer

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Scott Brick is a great reader for any book, but Baldacci made his job easy!

Fantastic Read

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters except for the president were complex and interesting. It was hard to stop listening. Norway suspense . I also enjoyed the author's comments at the end. They added a good perspective on the Secret Service and political figures or others who ascend to positions of great power. The narrator was ok, but he didn't give the characters individual voices. More varied inflection would help.
