Publisher's summary

Society runs smoothly because a secret team adjusts it, stepping in occasionally to bring about changes by adjusting people and their attitudes unbeknownst to them. As you can imagine timing is of the utmost importance, because if one individual is not adjusted, that sets the whole thing out of balance.

One of PKD's Best Short Stories

Any additional comments?

Immediately after the completion of listening to this short story, I went straight to Netflix to re-watch "The Adjustment Bureau", (the 2011 film loosely based upon the premise behind this story).
Just as a side-note to those who've seen the movie; this story is NOT the same as the plot used in the film. The film expands on The Adjustment Team's basic idea in order to make it long enough for a feature-length film.

But enough about that.

This is easily one of Philip K. Dick's best & most imaginative stories. Some of PKD's work suffers from the problem of not having a satisfying ending although the premise is brilliant. The Adjustment Team is not one of those mishaps.

There aren't many ideas that come across within fiction which force you to question your very reality. Sadly, those gems are few and far between. Luckily, if you are reading this, you have found one.

short story intro to PKD's mind

i approached this story as a hopeful writer. in short, i wish PKD had expanded this to a full length piece. this entry is a great way to break into the abstract world of Dick's mind. a world that created blade runner. his works ask questions about existence or fate (for example); questions wrapped in the veneer of his other great skill, world building.

This one lost me multiple times.

I really wanted to like it. I was open to go on the ride, but it just didn’t go where I needed it to. A roller coaster threatening over and over to start the climb to a high drop, but never going there and not paying off.

A little too short....

What would have made Adjustment Team better?

I was just getting into the story, and whoops its done! I think the story could have been made longer, that would have fleshed out the story to be a little more complete.
