Publisher's summary

Alan Watts has become known as the West's foremost interpreter of Eastern thought, and one of the most original philosophers of this century. Fortunately for us, he is also witty, articulate, insightful, very entertaining, and a pleasure to listen to.

In this audio collection, Alan Watts is all of those things and more, as he explains meditation in its historical context and shares his personal understanding of the richness it can bring to your life.

Alan Watts is also featured demonstrating the relationship of music and sound to meditation with gongs, instruments, and the recitation of a mantra. The demonstration is designed to give the listener the opportunity to experience a mantra meditation with Alan Watts and a group of friends who were brought together especially for this recording.

He really is passionate about what he is teaching and it comes through in the story. The recording is off the final which makes it even better.

Music in Words

In his other works, Alan Watts consistently demonstrates his deep wealth of knowledge concerning the philosophies of humanity’s history.

In Alan Watts Teaches Meditation, he demonstrates his intimacy with the meditative state. This is knowledge put into action. This is music put into words.

The ineffable Alan Watts presents a single dose of meditation.

A mindfulness meditation session walking the listener through various forms of meditation, or as Mr. Watts calls it- 'contemplation'. I would recommend listening to it in one single sitting session. As always, Mr. Watts presents the lesson in a way that is engaging, profound, and humorous. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to scratch the surface into a daily meditation practice, or to get away by all of the misleading images and ideas that have been attributed to the word 'meditation' and truly find out what is meant by the practice.

Easily accessible for beginners.

Alan Watts has the gift of explaining complex and sometimes boring material in a light hearted and effective manner. For those who are beginners he brings home an informed yet easy to grasp conversation while those who may be more experienced will find his use of words sometimes hilarious. A "to read" person for those interested in Eastern "spirituality".
