Thouroughly entertaining!

This audiobook story was a little different than most in that the heroine lives in a desolate Earth which has lost all governance and most of its technology. She works as a forestry worker, living alone in a cave home and planting trees. One day she’s assaulted by a gang of low life human men and is rescued by a strange alien being. She runs back home, but he follows her and she hits him over the head with a club and ties him up to a wall. The story of the relationship between these two people from very different ways of living and thinking is unique and enjoyable. They each have to learn to give in their interactions, but when she’s bluntly told what their plans are for the future, she’s freaked out and heartbroken. Add in a crazy ex who runs the gangs of raiders and some battles to rescue her and it’s entertaining! Narration was well done.

My first audio SFR book

Honestly, I struggled at first with the female narrator.
The story however is excellent. I just had a different voice in my head after reading the book. I'll be reading the rest of this series though. Very well written.

The story is better than the cover suggests

I saw a review that said this story was too one sided and to some degree it does focus on the female lead. However if you are a fan of aliens arrive on an earth with a collapsing economic and social structure, I have a story for you. This one presents with multiple culture differences that the female lead and male lead have to work together on. They both have their own flaws and triggers. It sets up a nice introduction to a potentially unique series. It’s worth giving a chance. The sexy time scenes are a bit tame, but the story is pretty solid.

Come on already!

Don't bother with this one...too much internal thinking on the heroine's part and too little interaction/dialog between the main characters. And it gets boring fast - the story is slow and the heroine repetative in her thoughts.

Nope

I wanted to like this one. The premise sounds great and the writing itself isn't terrible but the psychology just falls flat on it's face and the story falls into a lot of problematic traps of romance novels these days. The heroine is extremely repetitive and jumps to a lot of conclusions, she either doesn't ask questions she should or doesn't pursue the answers. The progression of feelings and sex are not earned, it just happens and the heroine can't explain it. The hero pulls some pretty unforgivable shit -- gives her a translation implant but then talks to his comrads in a language it doesn't have and when she tells him it must be malfunctioning, he just tells her he'll look into it. There is a lot of behavior where the heroine isn't clued into things or left out of things, or things are done for her that very much comes off like it's for her own good, she doesn't know better, so this is how it's going down. Misunderstandings happen and aren't properly explored, differences in culture are just an irritant and no understanding is gleamed. Worshipful mind blowing sex and reverence does not make these things acceptable! I found myself gritting my teeth and rolling my eyes entirely too much. I'm trying to get through this but it's so painful. I thoroughly regret wasting my free credit on this.
