Publisher's summary

Only a dog's fierce courage can save a man...
Only a man's true calling can save a dog.

The epic adventure of a lifetime. Be prepared to be swept away by J. R. Rain’s thrilling novel of redemption, self-discovery, and powerful love.

Dr. Shaye Fox has lost almost everyone and everything he loved, including his wife. Once a successful dentist with a passion for healing, he’s been stripped of his career, his self-esteem, and his reason for living.

His life is a mess until one rainy night when Shaye finds a big white dog in the road. A dog in critical condition. A dog with a horrific secret.

In his race to save the dog’s life, Shaye takes matters into his own hands. And when Shaye discovers that his dog companion is thousands of miles from home, it becomes his personal mission to return the dog to his rightful owners. All Shaye knows of War Daddy’s origins is that he comes from a small, forgotten Northern African kingdom on the edge of the vast Sahara desert.

Their journey of thousands of miles is just the beginning. When Shaye becomes a stranger in a strange land, his earnest intentions evolve into an inner quest to live a life of purpose and meaning. And if Shaye ever finds true love, that, too, would be a miracle. He just has to stay one step ahead of War Daddy’s enemies.

From the mountains of California to the scorching, rolling sand dunes of the mighty Sahara, this epic adventure of a troubled man and a stolen dog is sure to touch anyone with a love for animals and a hunger for new beginnings.

For fans of Richard Paul Evans and Paulo Coelho. Lawrence of Arabia meets A Dog's Purpose. For anyone who dreams of more, All the Way Back Home is a stand-alone, inspiring adventure with a lot of heart, laughs...and drool!

Very tender story

This may be the tenderest story I have read from this author. A health professional working very steadily trying to build a practice, loses his wife to her boss. Due to grief and sadness he becomes an alcoholic and (yikes) looses his license due to pulling the wrong teeth in 3 different patients. He is being sued by these patients and is dying inside day by day. His life is saved by a dog. The dog is a very special breed. The dog has been used as a drug mule and the drugs hav been cut out of his stomach.

The dog has bitten off the finger of the person who made him swallow the drugs. The dental skills are rusty, but he responds to the dog’s needs and repairs the stomach and skin. As the dog heals the washed up dentist falls in love with dog.

He follows the dog to his home in a near eastern desert country. Little by little the dentist heals. The process of healing is very unique. A deep spiritual healing takes place and the man finds his purpose and home.

Such a tender, exciting love story. A man wrote it! I am blown away by this writer. The same way I was blown away by “Bridges of Madison County”. Also written by a man. And so tender, man. Try this author. Read all his books and short stories. Such a treat. Such fun. You wont regret it.

Heartwarming thriller

I love JR Rains’ vampire stories. Except for the authentic feel of characters and story, this book is very different. I was engrossed with this story about a man and a dog who travel together from the mountains of California to the dunes of East Sahara. I recommend the novel book for anyone who loves adventure, cabins in the mountains, exotic foreign locales, and a fabulous dog. Fast paced and wonderful narration.

Amazing Story

I don't know how I came across this book, but I am thankful I did. I don't believe I have read any of this author's book. but that changes now. I love finding a new great author. Can't wait to read another of his books.

Also Alex Freeman did a great job narrating this story.
