About this listen

THIS TIME THE GROOM?

Hometown golden girl Emily Whitaker couldn't have left Crimson in her rearview mirror fast enough…until life threw her some curveballs and she's back—divorced and with a young son. Her brother's wedding should have been a welcome reprieve, but Jase Crenshaw is the best man to her maid of honor. She'd steered clear of him when they were kids, but now Jase has become one highly irresistible man.

Jase always harbored a crush on his best friend's sister. Back then, she was too good for the kid from the wrong side of the tracks. Now she thinks the upstanding town lawyer and mayoral candidate is too good for her. Can Jase convince the girl of his dreams they're both actually perfect…for each other?

Derailed toward end

This Harlequin contemporary still has a traditional bent - it starts with Emily’s recollection of her gala wedding that didn’t translate into real life happiness.
Spoiler Alert:
I liked Jase, but I’m very ambivalent about Emily and her constant meltdowns which were more prevalent than her special needs son. Then she went running to a new job and used the teenage move of having a friend drop off her resignation? As a woman who knew her mind she would have faced him head on - like when she convinced Jase to give her the job.
In The Real World, good guy Jase would not withdraw from the mayoral race because he’s a responsible guy and there was no other viable candidate. Bottom line, there was a lack of emotional intelligence - a disconnect of the character’s attitude and actions - that turned me off the writing toward the end. Jase proposing and Emily’s unexplained attitude turnaround, just did not work for me. It wrecked the book for me and left me unsatisfied. Oooh, a ring and you’re going to let me decorate!
Get real.
Robins’ narration was ok. The author messing up the ending lost stars.
