"Over at our place, we're sure of just one thing: everybody in the world was once a child. So in planning a new picture, we don't think of grown-ups, and we don't think of children, but just of that fine, clean, unspoiled spot down deep in every one of us that maybe the world has made us forget and that maybe our pictures can help recall." - Walt Disney

A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? In Charles River Editors' American Legends series, listeners can get up to speed on the lives of America's most important men and women in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known.

When it comes to the entertainment world and movie business, few names are as recognizable as Walt Disney, a versatile writer, producer, director, artist, and voice actor who literally turned his name into a billion-dollar business. Whether it was through the creation of iconic cartoons like Mickey Mouse or America's favorite theme parks, Disney and his assorted businesses have entertained countless numbers of people across the globe, particularly young kids.

At a time when cinema was still a new and growing business, Disney staked out unique turf by bringing comics to life on screen, with his first big hit being Mickey Mouse. Of course, the popularity of Mickey Mouse helped spawn future creations like Donald Duck and Pluto, all household names that have long since become part of Americana and the English lexicon. Disney had already earned an Academy Award by 1932, but he was far from done, later introducing viewers to new characters like Snow White and continuing to make popular cartoon series for decades.

I knew very little about Walt Disney before I started the book. After I finished it--I knew a good deal. I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator did a very good job. Great voice and intonation, no stumbling on words, good pace. He had enthusiasm. I plan to listen to this book again.

Very Interesting

I have read and listened to several Walt Disney bios and documentaries, but there was quite a bit of new information and anecdotes in this book which I had not heard before. Well worth the time to listen for any Disney fan.
