Publisher's summary

"A burning building doesn't scare me at all compared to the thought of losing you."

Firefighter Cole Taylor is the man everyone looks up to at Firehouse 9 in downtown Spokane. He's been at the department for 10 years and has no fear when it comes to dangerous situations.

Megan Taylor, Cole's wife, is a stay-at-home mother of their two boys. She was everything Cole ever wanted in a woman and the perfect wife any man could ask for, until one day when she decides to leave Cole.

Cole has fought hundreds of fires in his lifetime, but he had never tasted fear until he came to fighting a fire in his own home. Amongst the Flames is a Christian firefighter romance that tackles real-life situations and problems that exist in Christian marriages today. It brings with it passion, love, and spiritual depth that will leave you feeling inspired. This contemporary Christian romance novel is one book that you'll want to hear over and over again.

Good Christian Story about Fighting for Marriage.

What made the experience of listening to Amongst the Flames: A Contemporary Christian Romance the most enjoyable?

The narrator has a perfect voice for the main character. Also this is an uplifting story about overcoming obstacles in your life, particularly your marriage, through the Lord. It is written in a no frills, plain spoken style with a dramatic narrative. It is particularly good for the Christian fiction genre.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a realistic portrayal of some of the common problems in marriage (minus the male fantasy about his father-in-law dying so conveniently). It portrays the male mindset fairly well (according to my husband who listened to it with me while redoing the bathroom floor). It is a hopeful story that contains good advice.

Have you listened to any of Chris Abell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he gave a wonderful performance. He brought both the fire fighters and Megan and Amanda to life. He switched between the characters flawlessly. Good sound quality. Nice job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are several moving scenes in this book. When Megan leaves with the children, when he storms out of his father-in-law's house, the reconciliation talk he has with his father-in-law, when Cole finds out his wife was bar hopping, when Cole takes a turn with bedtime chores for the first time, and when Cole finds his wife's diary are all emotional scenes.

My husband's favorite scenes were when Cole realized that he really only sought God in times of crisis (the dusty bible scene) and when Cole realizes how much his wife is putting into raising their children.

Any additional comments?

I received this book for free from the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is a great book.

Beauuuutiful....

This story is a touching rendition of God's agape love in a contemporary marital relationship.

Where was the wife’s repentance?

Why didn’t they seek counseling? Meghan’s character was obnoxious. She broke trust and then got mad because her husband didn’t automagically trust her. M’am? I need you to have several seats.

Faith, Love and Lots of Forgiveness

This is the kind of book that, unfortunately, will "hit home" for many people in their relationships. I say unfortunately because this story shows how relationships can seem fine on the outside but are lacking on the inside. Megan and Cole had this type of marriage.

Megan is a wife who doesn't feel validated, cherished, or appreciated. I personally didn't understand the motives and many issues that Megan expressed (and didn't express) about her marriage but I do believe there are some women who will relate. Cole wasn't perfect but he made a decision to save his marriage no matter what. He put his faith in the Lord and surrounded himself with believing friends who helped him on his journey. Cole had to learn to forgive and love even when it was difficult. A good lesson for everyone!

The narrator did a nice job with this book. He has a soothing and clear voice that worked great for this genre. ;-)

My heartfelt thanks to the author, publisher or narrator for gifting me review copy in exchange for my review. :-)

Amongst the Flames

Amongst the Flames: A Contemporary Christian Romance: Embers and Ashes, Book 1
: T.K. Chapin

I sat here after finishing this book and wanted to smack both of the main characters upside the head. The story from the male P.O.V. has Cole acting the superhero and if Meghan is so unhappy, why hasn't she spoken up. Yes the message is faith, but I felt more blame without forgivness. I didn't expect all sunshine and flowers, but not all the angst. I would listen to more from this author.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.Chris Abell made the drama feel real.

Love and Firefighters..

Any additional comments?

The story was about main characters and their relationship with each other.

They had allowed other things to become more important than their marriage commitment.

The story covers the ups and downs between the couple and the author lists a few Scripture verses.

Overall, a well written and thought out story line.

Chris Abell did really well with the narration.
