About this listen

Rob Daniels is determined to prove to himself that his brother Alex got it wrong. Alex believes he found love through BDSM; Rob is certain that’s not possible. He even makes several visits to a London club to prove his point. But when he attends the grand opening of Secrets, Rob gets a shock, one that has him fleeing, vowing never to return - until he does...and runs into the brick wall that is Dom Vic Prentiss. As first meetings go, theirs is a disaster.

The more time he spends around Rob, the more convinced Vic becomes of two things - one, something is eating away at Rob, and two, he’s looking for something. Every instinct tells Vic to help him, but trying to unlock the secrets hidden in Rob’s mind requires a key. All Vic has to do is find it. Because maybe then he’ll get to see the real Rob, the man who’s scared to let go....

Don't quit too soon

I'll be honest and say I hated Rob most of the way through this book. He was a terrible person in the Collars & Cuffs series and he starts off as the biggest brat in this series. In my eyes he never fully redeems himself but he at least becomes tolerable. This book is also different than the others because the Dom has no drama, there's no hardcore kinky stuff, and the Sub barely even submits. It's a good story though, so don't quit before it gets enjoyable.

Loved it!

I’m a big sucker for redemption stories and man what a story this is! Rob and Vic are perfect together. Joel Leslie knocked the narration out of the park!

Amazing redemption story! All the feels!

The Secrets series soars to new heights with this one and to me it really stands out from the other books in the Collars and Cuffs & Secrets universe. I enjoyed reading all the books in these two series, but a couple of them resonated with me more than others and An Unlocked Mind is absolutely joining Dom of Ages at the top of my list.

Rob makes for a very unlikely sub with his cocky attitude, which he never loses, and that’s definitely part of why I adore him so much. The vulnerability he hides behind his bravado and the guilt he struggles with for how he treated his brother tugged at my heartstrings so much. I love the way Rob grows throughout this story, trying so hard to redeem himself, though sometimes stumbling along the way. I’m a sucker for redemption stories, especially of characters who messed up for MC’s from previous books in a series, so Rob was an unexpected treat for me!

Vic is the perfect match for Rob and at times almost too amazing and insightful. I loved seeing such a strong and outwardly tough looking guy be so caring and gentle, oh the magic of a Dom written exactly right. He’s there for Rob even when they barely know each other (or even like each other yet), no strings attached. I also adored him for not being too hung up on “the way things are usually done” and being open to it when Robs steps up to steer their relationship forward. The only thing that could have made this better for me was if Vic had also had a bit more of a growth arc himself. Apart from his love for Rob, he’s pretty much the same guy at the end as he was at the beginning of the book.

I loved seeing Jarod and Eli again, and I especially liked the burgeoning friendship between Jarod and Rob, which gets off to a rocky start because of the awful way Rob treated his brother Alex, who’s one of Jarod’s closest friends. We get the start of a new group of friends here and I hope their circle will continue to grow. Because I need the stories!

Narration: Joel Leslie did a truly wonderful job and I hope he’ll get to do the entire series. I very much enjoyed his performance, as I always do. He takes such care with the accents and has a great take on all the characters, main and secondary. I also love the consistency he can bring to the voices throughout the series. I cannot imagine Jarod or Eli sounding different all of the sudden from how they were in Dom of Ages, for example. That would not be a good thing. At all.

Freed

I was so glad to see that Thane and Drey get their chance. Thane has had to face so much more than we had even realized. Drey is such a wonderful caring man and always seem to be willing to put others first. I like how we get to see how resourceful and smart Thane is. Together they have a chance of a wonderful life working together to make it an even better world.

An awesome entry in the series

I enjoyed this story tremendously. Even at 12 hours, it wasn’t too much. Rob was pretty much a jerk in an earlier book, and even in the first part of this one he had moments of being quite the brat. His progression to accepting accountability for much of his unhappiness was well done and gratifying to watch. He and Vic were a great pair.

Beautiful Story, Joel Leslie is Excellent

An Unlocked Mind, the second book in K.C. Wells and Parker Williams’ Secrets series, is now available in audio. I’ve waited over a year to listen to Joel Leslie read this one to me, and I’m so happy! Mr. Leslie’s performance is excellent. He brings these characters to reality and infuses so much emotion into this story. I can’t imagine enjoying a Secrets novel any other way.

K.C. Wells and Parker Williams have created an amazing world in their interwoven Collars and Cuffs and Secrets series. The characters are passionate and they deal with some powerful issues. When I saw we were finally going to get Rob Daniels’ story, I knew An Unlocked Mind was going to be intense.

Fans of the Collars and Cuffs series will remember Alex’s bratty younger brother Rob from An Unlocked Heart. If you don’t, or haven’t read books from either collection yet, don’t worry. The authors do a wonderful job of blending the brothers’ stories into this one, so you won’t miss a thing. Just like the rest of the novels in both of these series, An Unlocked Mind can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Rob is headstrong and stubborn and I honestly couldn’t believe some of his antics. Basically the Best. Brat. Ever! This mischievous boy is definitely not like any submissive Vic’s known before. Rob’s spunk and sass are just what Vic needs to get him out of his rut.

While all of the relationships in this series are unique, I’ve got to say Vic and Rob’s journey stole my heart. From their very first interaction these two men light a spark in each other that results in great chemistry. I can’t wait to see where they go from here.

As the series grows it appears Wells and Williams are having great fun blending scenes with characters from previous books. I’m enjoying watching how everyone’s progressing and how they impact each other’s lives. I can’t help it; at this point I’m totally invested. An Unlocked Mind is a great addition, but buyer beware: once you try one, you’ll want more!
