About this listen

Narrator Jenna Ushkowitz is an award-winning actress, singer, producer, and podcast host best known for her role as Tina Cohen-Chang on Glee.

The sequel to Anna K, set over the course of the next summer, as the characters come to terms with Vronsky’s tragic death

How the mighty have fallen. Anna K, once the golden girl of Greenwich, CT, and New York City, has been brought low by a scandalous sex tape and the tragic death of her first love, Alexia Vronsky. At the beginning of the summer, her father takes her to the other side of the world, to connect with his family in South Korea and hide her away. Is Anna in exile? Or could this be her chance to figure out who she really is?

Back in the US, Lolly has forgiven Steven for cheating on her, and their relationship feels stronger than ever. But when Lolly meets a boy at her beloved theater camp, she has to ask herself how well Steven will ever really know her. Meanwhile, in Manhattan, everything between Kimmie and her new boyfriend, Dustin, is easy - except when it comes to finally having sex. And Bea escapes to LA, running away from her grief at her beloved cousin’s death, until a beautiful stranger steals her heart. Is Bea ready to finally forgive Anna, and let herself truly fall in love for the very first time?

Set over the course of one unforgettable summer, Jenny Lee's Anna K Away is full of the risk, joy, heartbreak, and adventure that mark the three months between the end of one school year and the beginning of the next.

I liked and disliked this book. Personally I feel some parts were ugh and some were good. I really liked the ending where Anna and B talk out their feelings and decide to move forward it was very pleasing. I didn’t like however who ended up being the hit man/shooter at the party, and how it was just glazed over like nothing. I believe it should have been more emotional not just like let me go change dress….but that’s just me.

Side note I listened to the book while at work…Wish each chapter was individually uploaded rather than just one chunk for each part. This was very hard in the beginning because I liked how we have a character list and having to go back and forth was a pain.

No secret I am completely biased. Anna K is by far one of my favorite ever characters. Lolly finally gets the character arc she deserves alongside Kimmie (one of my favorites from the first book). Beatrice gets so much more room and there are new places to explore, new characters to meet and new challenges with 18th birthdays and new romances. I love Jenny Lee’s writing.

I really wasn't sure where you could go after (a modern teen adaption of) Anna Karenina, but I really loved continuing to follow these characters and their journeys. It's definitely more a teen book now than a retelling of a classic, but I loved the character development. My favorite story line was for Lolly, because as a former theatre kid, I found her story more relatable. I'm really glad she had her moment to shine in this book. I would really like to hear more about what happens to her, and I'm eager to see what happens next for Anna too.
