About this listen

Modern Standard Arabic, or MSA, is the standard, formal, written form that is used and understood throughout the Arab world. While primarily written, MSA is also spoken in highly formal situations, in higher education, in sermons, and in the courts of law.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to near-native fluency. Modern Standard Arabic Phase 1, Unit 16-20 builds on material taught in prior units. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak Modern Standard Arabic.

Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile)

Excellent for beginners!

Any additional comments?

Great for pronunciation and grammar drill. As usual with Pimsleur it lacks vocabulary, you are still a beginner after this course (even after all 30 lessons), but you are a very confident beginner.

Honest review

I’ve been more else teaching myself Arabic for about 5 years with little effort and sporadic results. Primarily due to a lack of structure, which I found limits my ability to track and/or make progress. Which I found leads to a lack of interest and stopping for extended periods of time.

I just completed lesson 20 of level 1 and the results are amazing. My wife a native Arabic speaker is very impressed by my level of conversation now. I’m excited to see where I’ll be by less 30 of level 3!

I find that doing one lesson twice per day has produced the best results for myself. I prefer to do the lessons while driving.

Try it out! I think you’ll like the approach, just be patient and don’t skip ahead.
