About this listen

Western Heritage and Spur award-winning author Dusty Richards tells the thrilling saga of Chet Byrnes, a man who brought the spirit of Texas into Arizona Territory - and the guns to back it up....

Have gun, will battle. Chet Byrnes has built a ranching empire from the ground up. And he's defended it with his sweat, blood, and a ragtag band of ranch-hand fighters. Now a beautiful, young Spanish widow comes into Chet's life just as he starts off in search of a lost cattle drive. The search leads into the eye of a sprawling, violent storm. Chet and his men - and his seductive new woman - end up on a wild ride through Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas, where authorities want to confiscate the beeves for trespassing. With Indians, outlaws, and an oppressive government crossing their path, Chet is on a cowboy's honeymoon: fighting and shooting all the way back home.

Chet, call me Chet

This one had very little new. Most of this book was Chet repeating most of the previous books, over and over. I will not read the next one.

Unnecessary storyline

The first 2 books were so great and I was excited about this one....boy was I disappointed. The storyline could have been accomplished in one chapter. The author continued to talk about the couples relationship and how they meet through the entire book. Horrible book!!!

Real Settings, Unreal People

The setting and adventures of this book are good, however the characters lack depth and the main conflict seems to be with the Mormon church of the time. The love story between Chet and Liz is repetitive, unrealistic, and the two can do no wrong. The description of horse handling and care is good and the author seems to know that subject, but historical events and places seem to lack (even for historical fiction). The Mormon paymaster robbery is based on the Wham Paymaster Robbery event, but the depiction of that event and subsequent events is factually lacking to the point of casting an undeserving shadow on the Mormon Church of the time. Although based on real places and some real events, the people and their characteristics and mannerisms are very much fiction.
