Publisher's summary

A powerful and haunting novel of a woman's broken past and the painful choices she must make to keep her family and her home.

August 1956. After a night of rage and terror, Anna Nassad wakes to find her abusive husband dead and instinctively hides her bruises and her relief. As the daughter of Syrian immigrants living in segregated Alabama, Anna has never belonged, and now her world is about to erupt.

Days before, Anna set in motion an explosive chain of events by allowing the first black postman to deliver the mail to her house. But it's her impulsive act of inviting him inside for a glass of water that raises doubts about Anna's role in her husband's death.

As threats and suspicions arise in the angry community, Anna must confront her secrets in the face of devastating turmoil and reconcile her anguished relationship with her daughter. Will she discover the strength to fight for those she loves most, even if it means losing all she's ever known?

Tragic and real!

The author made the main character’s world come to life, outlines the struggles of many who come to this country and the bigotry they face. It’s a very sad story of a woman unable to know and assert herself until later in life, and the effects this has on her family.

A Must Read!

I was intrigued the whole time, captivating at it's core. A true relic for women everywhere. It's relatable. Mysterious. Wonderfully narrated.

Slow and a bit drawn out

The flashbacks are so distracting after awhile; you care about the narrator but you get tired of her; compelling in places

Awesome!

My first audio book... I’m hooked. I commute about an hour... great way to spend that time.

Pushing myself to finish it

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't know. This story is about an egocentric, very self-centered woman who only think about her and complain about everything in her life.

What character would you cut from As Good as True?

Anna, but if I cut her, there is nothing since it's all about her.

Depressing

I wasn't able to finish this. It started fine then took a drastic turn. The first chapter pulls you in, but once in, there really isn't any substance to keep you there. I tried, but had to give in and move on.
