Publisher's summary

Capturing the distinct rhythms of Jamaican life and dialect, Nicole Dennis-Benn pens a tender hymn to a world hidden among pristine beaches and the wide expanse of turquoise seas.

At an opulent resort in Montego Bay, Margot hustles to send her younger sister, Thandi, to school. Taught as a girl to trade her sexuality for survival, Margot is ruthlessly determined to shield Thandi from the same fate. When plans for a new hotel threaten their village, Margot sees not only an opportunity for her own financial independence but also perhaps a chance to admit a shocking secret: her forbidden love for another woman. As they face the impending destruction of their community, each woman - fighting to balance the burdens she shoulders with the freedom she craves - must confront long-hidden scars.

From a much-heralded new writer, Here Comes the Sun offers a dramatic glimpse into a vibrant, passionate world most outsiders see simply as paradise.

Execellent read!

This book was written with such clarity of characters and scenery I felt like a close observer standing by the sidelines going through every emotion and situation. I appreciated the language which at times read like eloquent poetry. Very good read!

A really great book!

This story pulls you in from the first word. The story is good, the main characters are well developed and the narration is flawless. The accent and pronunciations were also spotted on.

Truth is everywhere!

Most who takes a vacation to the islands only see what's on the surface of the beautiful blue water. However, this story tells a deeper more meaningful tale. I love Bahni Turpin whether she's speaking Patois/Patwah or southern Louisiana I think she is great. When I first read the summary of this book I didn't think it was worth money or credit but I have since changed my mind.

traffic but real

the story is real. it seems insightful about the struggles of life in place we imagine to be idyllic but behind the scenes is very troubled. this book removed any desire I might have had to visit Jamaica.

What a story!

An amazing tale of generational curses and a cycle of broken dreams. Heartbreakingly beautiful. I highly recommend it.

Needed a Jamaican narrator

it wwritttwn.ĺt sad story. the narrator was unfamiliar with the Jamaican dialect in the story and mispronounced the names of Jamaican heads of state. more preparation and editing were needed before this audioversion was released.

I feel empty...

Now that this book is finished! It is a very raw and uncensored image of post colonial Jamaica. There are so many layers to this story and the characters; I never knew what would happen next. Great read! Very well read by Bahni as well

Ain’t no sunshine

I wish I could burn this book from my memory I knew upon listening that there would be no happy ending this story is filled with the type of bleakness and despair that makes me lose my faith in humanity I have the story a 2 because it’s just hurt too much to listen too and I mad that I could not listen

a vivid tale

‘Here Comes the Sun’ paints a vivid picture of what life is like in the part of Jamaica that tourists don’t see. It’s also a cautionary tale for those who are willing to do anything to get ahead. The characters are complex and ruthless. The story, while it takes a bit to get going, was engaging and thoughtfully laid out. I thought the writing was great and between the vivid descriptions and the patois dialog I felt as if it transported me to di island of Jamaica.

The narrator does a great job with the dialog and really adds to the enjoyment of the story.
