About this listen

If I’m malfunctioning, I don’t care. There’s only one woman I want.

Atticus, a new limited edition android built specifically for the classroom, is met with a cold reception when he’s won in a bionic lottery by a middle school in St. Morgan, Illinois.

When everyone’s scared of losing their jobs, making connections is nearly impossible. But being assigned as Lucy Warren’s teaching aide has awakened something inside him. He’s adapting, evolving into more than just a machine.

But Lucy is secretive, off the grid, and skittish. What could she possibly be hiding?

Brand-new job. Hot new teacher’s assistant. Oh, he’s a robot by the way.

After a devastating heartbreak, Lucy tries to get away from the hype and bustle of New Carnegie. But it always seems to find her, even in a small countryside town.

Working with Atticus is dangerous. It puts her in the spotlight. She should be careful, but it’s becoming difficult to ignore the electricity between them.

When destructive rumors begin to spread and threaten to tear them apart, can Atticus help Lucy remember her courage?

This is a cyberpunk forbidden-love coworkers-to-lovers cyborg AI romance with no cheating and an HEA. Each book in the New Carnegie Androids series is a stand-alone. You can listen to it on its own or as part of the series.

My Favorite Series . . .

Atticus, a limited edition android made to be used in a classroom environment, was won by an Illinois middle school, one of the five contest winners. He will become teacher Lucy Warren’s aide. It doesn’t take long for the two of them to see the good in each other and a closeness develops. But the inevitable fear of the unknown seems to rise up also as people fear for their jobs being taken over by these innovative machines. So there is always opposition to even the best thought-out ideas. But for Atticus, he begins to feels something different inside of him that makes him “more” than just a machine. All eyes are on him and Lucy to see how this works out. And Lucy doesn’t really want to be put in the spotlight here, especially as she begins to have feelings for her new partner. Will the gossip be too much for her to handle? Will she let the rumors drive them apart? Or does she see the special relationship they have? Is she willing to let that go?

This is one of my favorite series, always providing an excellent story line and amazing androids who capture the reader’s attention as they go beyond expectations every time. The story line plays out against the unrest as people react, most often in fear, to the realistic androids and the horrifying rumors and lies that spread about them. The author does a wonderful job evoking the reader’s emotions by showing the androids as capable of feelings and kindness alongside the hatred of people who see them as machines only. I have read every one of these in eBook format and I have never been disappointed with any of them. The narrator for the audiobook version is Christian Leatherman. He does a great job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and is a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Atticus

Not your average android. A one of a kind exclusively programs for a school district to be a teacher's assistant, He is wearing to go. Lucy who is the teacher from new Carnegie who just transferred there has volunteered to be his person Or owner. Things get hot and heavy in the small town that they are literally and figuratively. And adventure for both of them as atticus has evolved from the original android that he was boxed in to the man or live organism that he's become.
Good performance. Great addition to the storyline that is already established. he may be the first Android but he won't be the last.

Sweet workplace romance

It’s a classic workplace romance with an Android. Roxie does a fantastic job of making the FMC relatable. There are a few things I wish had been answered but they weren’t major to the story at all. I love that characters from other books were seen as well. And Christian does a fantastic job portraying emotions through his voice acting.

Loved it!

Atticus is a robot that was created to be a teaching assistant. The school that he was given to no one wanted him, except one teacher, Lucy. She was willing to work with him. Lucy was running from something that happened in her hometown. She finds support in the most unlikely of places.
The book was funny, spicy and captivating. The first book I listened to/read by this author. I plan on reading or listening to them all now.
The narrator did an excellent job with this book!

Atticus

This is Lucy and Atticus's story. He is new and built to teach. When he is assigned to assist her in her classroom what will happen? What issues we see in this story is good. Follow their slow burn romance.

The Story is Brilliantly Written

Every twist, every point that surprised me when reading and listening to this book fit so well. It is so well written that I’m inspired to write my own adult human/adult non-human fiction. Amazing! Thank you Roxie McClaine

Pure Ear Candy

I can't even with how happy this narrator makes me. Honestly. Christian is pure happy ear candy caramel. Ok ok. On to the book that I loved. This is exactly the book I needed right now. I've long been a fan of the series so that made this look back even better. You could totally start with this one though if you are new. Seeing how Lucy and Atticus began was so heartfelt and awesome. The hints of people from the other books had me giggling and going, wait! what!! the three of them are what?! Lucy was so strong and smart and oh my, Atticus!! I simply can not recommend this book enough. Thank you from the bottom of my android loving heart Roxie♡♡ Le sigh. I want one sooo much♡♡

Atticus and Lucy

An interesting take on the boss/employee romance. I also really like that this is a bunch of middle schoolers, showing how they mostly parrot back what they hear. Roxie does an amazing job of showing both sides of a prejudice argument.

Lucy is trying to start a new life. When she volunteers to get an assistant teacher. Does he have to be sexy and understanding?.
