Publisher's summary

Hell realms, gods, and hungry ghosts - these are just a few of the images on the Buddhist wheel of life. In Awakening from the Daydream, discover how these ancient symbols are still relevant to our modern life.

In Awakening from the Daydream, meditation teacher David Nichtern reimagines the ancient Buddhist allegory of the Wheel of Life. Famously painted at the entryway to Buddhist monasteries, the Wheel of Life encapsulates the entirety of the human situation. In the image of the Wheel we find a teaching about how to make sense of life and how to find peace within an uncertain world.

Nichtern writes with clarity and humor, speaking to our contemporary society and its concerns and providing simple practical steps for building a mindful, compassionate, and liberating approach to living.

Learned a lot

I listen to a lot of books. However I do not buy physical copies of very many of them. I am going to buy this one. I learned so much about Buddhism from this book I want to have the physical book as a reference guide. Davids voice and the way he writes makes what could be pretty dry into something interesting and easy to follow. I listened to this while I rode my bike and I had a hard time putting it down when the ride was over.

An easy listen. Be prepared to return to this.

Thank you, David, for presenting these teachings with concise language. There is a lot of information here. It feels as though the author is compassionately presenting them directly to your head and heart. This was my introduction to the Buddha’s Wheel of Life and I would recommend it to any beginner.

He includes practical practices and techniques that help us to navigate those landscapes and good advice regarding typical pitfalls those on the path may encounter. Thanks for this David!

Not mind blowing. Kind of googleable

I enjoy listening to David on podcasts and purchased this book in reference to how earth shattering these reviews were. David normally sounds personable but this book could have been an article written by AI.
