Publisher's summary

A favorite of Tibetans and recommended by the Dalai Lama and other senior Buddhist teachers, this practical audio guide to inner transformation introduces the fundamental spiritual practices common to all Tibetan Buddhist traditions.

The Words of My Perfect Teacher is the classic commentary on the preliminary practices of the Longchen Nyingtig—one of the best-known cycles of teachings and a spiritual treasure of the Nyingmapa school—the oldest Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Patrul Rinpoche makes the technicalities of his subject accessible through a wealth of stories, quotations, and references to everyday life. His style of mixing broad colloquialisms, stringent irony, and poetry has all the life and atmosphere of an oral teaching.

Great care has been taken by the translators to render the precise meaning of the text in English while still reflecting the vigor and insight of the original Tibetan. A preface by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, insightful introductory essays, and explanatory notes enhance this quintessential introduction to Tibetan Buddhist practice. This audio edition includes translations of a postface to the text written a century ago (for the first printed edition in Tibetan) by the first Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, and a new preface by the late Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. This audio edition is deftly narrated by Homer Todiwala.

Excellent

The only thing I found confusing was the strange pronunciation at times by the narrator, of some common Dharma terminology but the content and general tone makes up for it . Relieved and grateful to have this on audible as I can’t read my hard copy yet!

I love this book

Always loved this book, personally the narration style or performance is rather too geared for a story like lord of the rings. In points there are ways the text is read that insinuates certain moods or emotions/ideas(through tone and pauses, etc) that are too animated for a such a pithy text.

Amazing

In the timeless wisdom shared by Patrul Rinpoche in his seminal work “Words of My Perfect Teacher,”

A must read for anyone in the path of self discovery;

meditation is depicted not merely as a practice but as a profound journey towards the true nature of mind and mortal existence as earth suit drivers.

This revered text serves as a guide for those on the path of Dzogchen, a tradition within Tibetan Buddhism,

and elucidates meditation as an essential tool for spiritual awakening and liberation.

Good bad happy sad!

So happy this is finally available! If you know, you know.

So disappointed that absolutely no research has gone into proper pronunciations. Nepal is not pronounced nipple. Good god. It’s all practice so I’ll take it as that but hot damn, please hire a cultured buddhist to read these priceless treasures and transmit this golden Dharma purely. OmAhHum!

Excellent content. Tibetan/Sanskrit words are mispronounced.

Regardless of the narration, it is an excellent teaching. The seed of bodhicitta is planted.

Mispronouncing Every Other Term

I'm not sure how the Padmakara Group allowed this person to read for the book. The narrator mispronounces almost every single Dharma term in Sanskrit and Tibetan.
