그러던 어느 날 삼촌은 집을 에워싼 동산까지 다 깎아내며 뒷마당에 창고를 짓기 시작한다. 도박판을 진전하던 삼촌이 온갖 잡화를 파는 인터넷 쇼핑몰을 열어 생계를 꾸릴 것이라고 선언한 것이다. 그렇게 착실히 살아가길 몇 년, 나는 대학에 들어간 후 삼촌과 외떨어져 서울살이를 하는데 어느 날 전화 한 통이 걸려온다. 삼촌이 자살했다는 믿을 수 없는 소식. 깜짝 놀란 나는 신체안치소로 가서 삼촌의 신원을 확인한다. 그리고 삼촌의 영정사진을 구하려고 옛집으로 향하던 중 삼촌의 핸드폰으로 3백만 원이 입금되었다는 문자를 받는다. 그리고 8억이라는 거액의 통장 잔고. 나는 삼촌의 집 근처에서 우연히 만난, 삼촌의 쇼핑몰에서 모바일 버전 홈페이지 제작 알바를 해왔다는 초등학교 동창 배정민의 도움을 받아 관리자 페이지에 들어간다. 그러자 불쑥 더헬프닷컴의 오른쪽 하단에 메시지 창이 활성화된다.
