Shri Bhagavad Gita Chapter 12 | श्री भगवद गीता अध्याय 12 | श्लोक 15

  • Summary

  • This verse is from the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 12, Verse 15. The translation is:

"Yasmān nodvijate loko lokān nodvijate cha yaḥ | Harṣāmarṣabhayodvegair mukto yaḥ sa cha me priyaḥ ||" "One who is not disturbed by the material world and does not disturb others, who is free from joy, anger, fear, and anxiety, such a person is dear to Me."

This verse describes the qualities of a devotee who is especially dear to Lord Krishna. The qualities outlined here are:

    Yasmān nodvijate loko:

Yasmān: "By whom" Nodvijate: "Is not disturbed" Loko: "The world" A true devotee is not disturbed by the world or the external circumstances around them. They remain unaffected by the fleeting and chaotic nature of the material world.

    Lokān nodvijate cha yaḥ:

Lokān: "Others" or "the people" Nodvijate: "Does not disturb" Such a person does not disturb others either. They are not a source of turmoil or chaos in the lives of those around them.

    Harṣāmarṣabhayodvegair mukto:

Harṣa: "Joy" Amarṣa: "Anger" Bhaya: "Fear" Udvēga: "Anxiety" Mukto: "Freed from" The devotee is free from joy, anger, fear, and anxiety. Their emotions are balanced, and they do not get overly elated or upset by external situations.

    Yaḥ sa cha me priyaḥ:

Yaḥ: "Who" Sa: "He" Cha: "Also" Me priyaḥ: "Is dear to Me" Lord Krishna declares that a person who possesses these qualities—being calm, balanced, and unaffected by the extremes of joy, anger, fear, and anxiety—is particularly dear to Him.
