About this listen

Assistant D.A. Alexandra Cooper is deeply involved in a complicated, high-profile homicide case against defendant Brendan Quillian, a prominent young businessman charged with the brutal strangulation of his beautiful young wife. His conviction is not a certainty: Quillian was conveniently out of town on the day of the killing, and his defense attorney seems to be one step ahead of Cooper's effort to prove Quillian paid a hit man to commit the crime.

Halfway through the trial, a major catastrophe alters the course of Cooper's case. A cataclysmic explosion rips through New York City's Water Tunnel #3, a spectacular feat of modern engineering that will be completed years in the future. Was the blast caused by terrorism? Political retribution? Or was it merely an accident? Cooper is quickly drawn into the tragedy when she discovers a strange connection linking Brendan Quillian to the tunnel workers killed in the explosion.

Told with Linda Fairstein's trademark blend of brilliant detective work, cutting-edge forensics, and electrifying courtroom drama, Bad Blood is packed with the twists and turns that never fail to thrill her legions of devoted fans.

This is a great mystery!!!

Would you listen to Bad Blood again? Why?

Yes. Great story and plot.

The wedding.

Any additional comments?

This listen was a great part of the series. Definitely better than Death Dance.

Maybe not the most brilliant

I like the story but it’s perhaps not the most brilliant plot. The intro to the sand hogs was a bit sloppy and the explosion that the book starts with is pushed to the side too rapidly to make it seem real.

too many complications!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend it with a caveat: it's a good read/listen IF one enjoys lots of complications, especially within the final hour of the book.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I was able to follow the complicated plot until the final hour, or so, when far too many people and events took place.

Which scene was your favorite?

Hard to label just one as a favorite - I like the interplay between Mercer and Cooper. He's an incredibly wonderful character, whom I wish I could know in real life!! Probably the most surprising and dramatic scene was the one that took place in the courtroom that had one of the characters snatching a loaded gun and using it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes because of the numerous twists and turns.

Any additional comments?

I think Barbara Rosenblatt could read a phone book and have my rapt attention - she is definitely among the best narrators. Anything she reads is worth listening to !

Does blood tell?

I do like this series! really good characters.

This time we start in the court room with a man Alexander want to prove killed his wife.

During the story, I learned about the law and spousal abuse, the history of what lies below the city, how the city gets water...so much more...and it will end under the city!

Great start then not so good

The opening chapter is worth the cost of Bad Blood. The later technical discussions of getting fresh water into Manhattan is informative and entertaining. The discussions of DNA are very informative. The story itself becomes boring. Overall, this book has significant interest and value despite the weak story. 3 Stars for narration is being kind.

Barbara Rosenblat is the Best Narrator

Enjoyed the story, I’m working my way through all of Linda Fairstein’s mysteries. With Barbara, all voices are very distinct with the narration and so interesting to have the history of NY woven into the story. I wrote a review of Killer Heat that is narrated by Bernadette Dunne - this book is NOT narrated by B Rosenblat contrary to the edited headline of my review. Once you’ve experienced Barbara Rosenblat’s narrated books, you may be disappointed in B Dunne’s.

Enjoyable narration

I by far enjoy the books read by Barbara Rosenblat the most. Her narration of the 3 main characters has really given them their unique personalities. I can visualize them as she is narrating. With other narrators I cannot follow the story as well. I have to remind myself who's talking because I don't recognize the voice.

Wasn't Impressed

Would you try another book from Linda Fairstein and/or Barbara Rosenblat?

No, I would not. The story was not original and the author went to great, far fetched lengths to throw in twists and turns to keep the reader interested. She even branched off with other, random characters that had nothing to do with the plot at all.
I was bored listening to the story and often found myself switching off all together.
The narrator, though expressive and able to narrate the voices of several different characters well, ruined it all with her loud, wet swallowing noises and gasping, It actually made me cringe and wrinkle in my nose in disgust every time I heard it, which was often.

Has Bad Blood turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes and no. I can deal with a story that may use the "same ol, same ol" idea of a murder, who did it, was it x, was it z. As long as the characters are real and I can relate to them I am happy. The characters in Bad Blood were all one dimensional, I couldn't relate to any of them, I didn't care about any of them.

Would you be willing to try another one of Barbara Rosenblat’s performances?

No!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None for me, no.

Any additional comments?

I really regret buying Bad Blood. It was a waste of money.

HORRIFIC reader

If you want to listen to Barbara Rosenblat suck cough drops and swallow her saliva and gasp for breath during every pause; by all means feel free to waste a credit on this book.

It was so annoying that I stopped listening after 10 minutes.

While I love Linda Fairstein, and ordered her entire "Alex Cooper" series, the reader makes it impossible to listen to them.

Sorry to have wasted my $$$ and credits.
