About this listen

Two people investigate the mysteries buried deep in the bayou in this standalone classic from New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon

Bodyguard Brian Marcentel knew Justine Chatry had a job to do, but so did he. He’d been hired to keep her safe—from whatever lurked behind the walls of a long-neglected mansion. And yet, the beautiful researcher insisted on helping him investigate every suspicious noise and following him through the murky bayou as he tracked down trespassers. All of that paled in comparison, though, to his greatest challenge: trying to resist her when the fear took over and she looked to him for protection.

I like mystery. I didn’t like her poor sister having a breakdown. I wish there had more description about the house.

That it’s like her other books. Like the suspense .

Like all, Jana, books love the storylines always keeps you going with what’s gonna happen next however, the reader to me read like a third grader. I had to speed up the context of the book just because I wanted to listen, and I knew if I returned it, I would have to buy it to read it. So if you can get past the reader, the story is great.

Love the story disliked the reader

Kind of juvenile story… A cliche search for hidden treasure with hidden passageways, etc. that could have had a stronger storyline.

Not up to DeLeon’s normal high quality.

I like all and love the story of Malédictions and the performance of the lady

I love thé book it’s very interesting

I usually love her books but this one just… fell flat on characters. Some could be the narrator whose voice just seemed too excited. Every narrator is different and I’m sure she’s perfect for other books.

Not what I’m used to

The narration sounded like it was AI. Not a lot of emotion in the narration,

Not my favorite Jana DeLeon

Great character characterization

I liked the book, overall, but I felt like it was done in a rush or something. Certain parts felt abrupt and the narrator just wasn't that great. Not enough emotion I think. I liked the atmospheric idea of rain, graveyards, old mansion, but it seemeda bit forced. I'm a sucker for a decent mystery and happy endings (sorry if thats a spoiler), so I still enjoyed it.

decent story concept

I’ve read so many Jana DeLeon books because I’m a big fan, but I could’ve done without this particular one. Secret of Cypriere Bayou: scary house, man and woman meet there, face danger, solve mystery, fall in love. Bayou Bodyguard was the next part of the story, albeit with different main characters, but I found it boring after reading Secret. Bayou Bodyguard involved the same scary house, a new man and woman, they meet, face danger, solve mystery, and fall in love. The new couple are on a different quest, but there was the same questionable sheriff, cloaked figure, local diner, bad weather, loss of electricity, and superstitions as in the first book. Not very fun. I also did not enjoy the narrator’s reading of this book. That was a contributing factor to my disappointment.

Weak follow on to The Secret of Cypriere Bayou

I always enjoy JD; however, I don’t think the narrator did justice to the story. She did a great job reading, but not a great job storytelling

Good story
