Publisher's summary

"I'm Lexi Carmichael, geek extraordinaire. I spend my days stopping computer hackers at the National Security Agency. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work for a top-secret agency, I've never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella.

"Until today, that is, when two gun-toting thugs popped up in my life and my best friend disappeared. So, I've enlisted the help of the Zimmerman twins - the reclusive architects of America's most sensitive electronic networks - to help me navigate a bewildering maze of leads to find her.

"Along the way, my path collides with a sexy government agent and a rich, handsome lawyer, both of whom seem to have the hots for me. Hacking, espionage, sexy spy-men - it's a geek girl's dream come true. If it weren't for those gun-toting thugs...."

Cute Caper

Looking for light listening, this met that expectation. The story would better have been read by a Lauren Becall kind of voice rather than the sweet little girl voice, over-articulated with corny accents. Some interesting characters that kept my attention but unfortunately the main character isn't credible and may be more suited for young (11 year old) readers.

Fun

These stories have a little bit of everything. Mystery, romance, action, adventure, cops and robbers. I think the author wrote a great series and it's nice to read and listen to a story without vulgarities. I can listen to it in the car with worrying about who is on the car with me.

Read it in print instead

I loved this book when I read it but hated it when I was listening to it. I couldn't listen for more than an hour. The reader is just totally wrong for the book. She does it no justice. I'm so glad I decided to read it on my kindle instead of just giving up on it because it was so much fun! A total page-turner with a little humor tossed in. It's more complex than your average cozy mystery but not as dark as your average spy thriller. It's a nice combination of the two. I loved Lexi and all the other characters. I can't wait to see them all again in the next book and am curious to see which of her many potential suitors she ends up with.

The beginning of one of my favorite book series

Geeks, handsome agents, and one clueless junior NSA cyber tech… mix together and you get a cast of wonderful characters, a great story, a lot of humor. Wonderful well-done narration, too!

The unfolding of the story stood out big time for me

I delayed listening to this one because of the rating but I actually enjoyed it greatly after having listened to most of the rest of the serie. It makes it even more interesting to see how the relationships evolved through the serie later on.

Bad narrator but decent book

I am pretty picky about narrators and almost didn't get this one because of the reviews. I'm glad I got the book anyway because it was a fairly fun read, and the narration wasn't bad enough that I returned the book without even finishing it (which I have done a few times). This narrator wasn't even bad enough that I plan to go for the print version of any book she narrates that I'm interested in, which I do for some narrators. That being said, I should mention that my biggest pet peeves are over-acting and weird voices, like when someone reads in a voice that is too breathy or childish or whatever. This narrator spoke in a normal voice. Though she often sounded like she was reading a cue card (which I guess she sort of was) instead of sounding like a friend telling a story, her acting wasn't over the top, just not oscar-winning. I can live with that, along with a few mispronunciations I noticed.

HOWEVER, if bad accents are a particular annoyance to you, DO NOT get this book - it will make you want to jump off a bridge. There were many characters of various nationalities in this book, so there were many accents to perform. I wouldn't expect any narrator to get them all perfect, but this one sounds like her only exposure to non-American-accented English was from old Dracula movies.

meh

I'd say 2.5 stars. The story was mediocre and the narrator wasn't my favorite when she performed the male accents. I would not seek out this author

No One Lives Twice

Great start to a great series. Have already read series, now going through the audio books. I love Lexi, though in this book she is super naive. This is one of my favorite series. I highly recommend.
The narration is ok. The accents are pretty bad and there are times the narrator makes Lexi sound Valley girl. Which isn't the case.

Not happy with download

Was very disappointed in the quality of the download. One chapter was skipping other than that characters are fun and entertaining
