Publisher's summary

When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.

Former Special Forces medical sergeant Russell “Red” McKinley knows a thing or two about wounds, like the fact some can take a lifetime to heal, if they heal at all. The scars Red carries run deep, and living with PTSD often means battling the memories of his past. Injuries he received while working an executive protection case with fellow Kings and co-owners of Four Kings Security have once again forced past heartaches to the surface, but Red is determined not to let it derail his blossoming romance with sweet and sexy fashion photographer Lazarus Galanos.

Laz can’t deny there’s something special developing between him and Red, but Laz has wounds of his own. He’s hesitant to jump into a new relationship after his recent explosive breakup. Experience has taught Laz to doubt his judgement when it comes to men. Guys who seem too good to be true usually are, and no one appears more perfect than Red.

When an attempt is made on Laz’s life, Red is determined to keep him safe. Laz may not be a client, and Red is still off duty, but Laz is one of their own, and nothing means more to the Kings than family. While an investigation is underway, Red and Laz are growing closer, but can they find a way to help each other heal and take a chance on love, or will their fears and insecurities cost them more than their future together?

Sweet like pineapple 🍍

Be still my heart, indeed. This one is a sweet story featuring Red and Laz. I’d strongly suggest reading the first book Love in Spades before this one, as the story carries on from the first one to this. Red & Laz’s sizzling chemistry started in Love in Spades and in this book, we get to see their process of falling in love.

What I love most about this book is that there’s enough witty banter, sense of camaraderie and strong bond of brotherhood. Charlie also touches on realities of PTSD and how the Red and Laz adjust to the challenges and cope with it. There’s also the action sequences that, I believe, are always a different & richer experience on audio than on the ebooks.

It’s another 5-star for Charlie Cochet & Greg Boudreaux.

I’m off to listen to Lucky & Mason’s book now.

Awesome Series

I absolutely loved it. Red and Laz were perfect for each other. The mystery was good, and I never figured out the bad guy. The misunderstanding that people were all upset about? I got it. It worked for me. I so totally didn’t feel like Laz overreacted because of what he had went through previously. I’m glad that it wasn’t dragged out either. I can’t wait for Lucky’s book, I can hear the fireworks already.

I forgot how much I loved these two. I also forgot who the "bad guy" was initially. Greg Tremblay/Boudreaux did an amazing job as always.

A little action and not just in the bedroom!

Cochet's second installment of the Four Kings series gives us the adorable couple that is Laz and Red. Oh how I love them so. Changing perspectives from the end of book one, we finally get in the heads of Red and Laz. Let me tell you, they are truly a slow burn couple. The heat and electricity is there, but they are so wrapped up in their heads that they can't see what is right in front of them. Throw them into forced proximity and watch them catch fire.

Having read the book before, the audio has brought these amazing characters to life through Boudreaux's narration. It was not an easy task, but he has done a masterful job (so many accents).I found his voice to be so enthralling at times that I often forgot that I was listening to an audiobook. His ability to suck the reader into the depths of an audiobook is masterful and a gift in itself.

The Special Forces has never looked 'sweeter'!

Awwwww... Russell “Red” McKinley, the Four Kings 'teddy bear' is the star of this second installment of the series. Words cannot express how delighted I was that the simply incredible Greg Boudreaux narrated the audiobook as he did for the first book of the series. I found Red to be my very favorite in his treatment of Lazarus Galanos during the first book. I was so very thrilled his story was next up. Charlie Cochet couldn't have created a more loveable pair than these guys and the audiobook was one I couldn't just sit through. I found myself pacing and yelling out at certain parts of the book. Folks, you are going to love this book. Ms. Cochet has come up with yet another winner!

Action and romance

Exciting plot, action, lots of romance, good character development, a bit of angst but not too much. Greg Boudreaux give a great performance. I love his accents for Mason and Lucky (not our main characters, but it’s great that he puts forth great effort into even the non-lead roles!)

Very fun!

Sooo, super sassy tone here. Red and Laz are adorable. And there is a really sweet tone that makes it obvious the author knows Florida. As a queer Floridian that works for a private security company, it’s like this series was written for my deepest fantasies lol. Looking forward to the next one.

The story continues with Red

Red is still recovering from being injured when Laz is threatened by an unknown killer. Red is determined to protect Laz and keep him safe. Erotic romance and story of healing and finding love. Great performance. Recommend.
