Story
Growing up in the 1960s in the suburbs of Chicago, Meg Kissinger’s family seemed to live a charmed life. With eight kids and two loving parents, the Kissingers radiated a warm, boisterous energy. Whether they were spending summer days on the shores of Lake Michigan, barreling down the ski slopes, or navigating the trials of their Catholic school, the Kissingers always knew how to live large and play hard. But behind closed doors, a harsher reality was unfolding.

Story
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Yes, she was a strong and effective business leader, the successful daughter of immigrants, and the mother of a toddler, but she was disconnected from her own feelings and had little patience for those of others. All that changed, however, when three of the people most important to her - her husband, father, and mother - died in quick succession.

Publisher's summary
A mother's triumphant journey from darkness to light after suffering a traumatic loss. Behind the Face is a heart-wrenching story that will inspire you as Toranj Irani embarks on her path toward healing.
Toranj allows the listener insight into her journey from wondering why her life included so much suffering, and why she was being punished to the realization that not everything is happening to you and into the knowing that things are always happening for you. With this new awareness, she was able to move from bitter to joyful.
Toranj then went on to develop a connection with her daughter. Although no longer in physical form, she is very much a part of her everyday life, which includes "out of the blue" magical surprises.
This is a powerful story of her awakening and transformation.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Wonderful story of strength and recovery from the unimaginable.
I have spoken with Taranj Armani many times as she is my grandson’s teacher for which I am forever grateful. Despite all of the tragedies in her life, she shows so much love and caring for the children under her care. This book Chronicles, both the joys and tragedies of her life, and how she grew stronger with each of them. She is truly an amazing person and this is her story. Read it, it will change your life.
