About this listen

In a future United States where those who control technology control the wealth, 17-year-old Marguerite's viral video propels a populist candidate to presidential victory on a platform of "tech for all". But as the mouthpiece of the new leader determined to break the elite stronghold, Marguerite finds herself on the opposite side of the divide in a new high school full of technocrat teens.

When the enigmatic Percy, with his flamboyant fashion sense, sharp wit, and tragic past, takes an interest in her, she is suspicious. But with everyone against her, she needs an ally. Percy is drawn to Marguerite's passion for the cause, but the legacy of his murdered scientist parents prevents him from letting her get too close.

Soon terrorists strike the capital and technocrat leaders begin turning up dead, and the two must work together to protect both their families and the country. With everyone literally plugged into technology, total domination will take only a flip of the switch. In order to preserve their freedom and the future Marguerite envisions, she and Percy may be forced to pay the ultimate price.

Great book

the book was very interesting, and made me think about our government and being pro-active. I liked the book.

Very Unusual

That was not what I expected, in the best sort of way. The characters are truly different in this, and they let their experiences and emotions cloud their judgment at times, which leaves you wondering who is really right and who is wrong.

The story also has a lot to say about crooked politics, but all in a future world. I confess I'm tired of politics at the moment, but this kept my attention, as it was more about the subtle ways people lie, manipulate, or sculpt a story to their benefit.

How am I discovering this author only now?

Seriously, this book exceeded all my expectations. It was much better than I had anticipated, even if I did take a peek at previous reviews. I loved it, pure and simple.

Narration was superb, IMO. The duo of narrator kept everything flowing, and their voices were awesome.

I will SURELY check her other books now!

A stunningly put together Dystopian Novel

This is a first for me reading and reviewing a Sarah Fine novel and I sincerely hope it is nowhere close to my last.

Just about every core concern of awake citizens is covered here: Continued freedom to make choices for our own lives, sometimes out of control tech development that many of us are unsure is in our interests and the critical centre that authenticity and personal values provide.

Lauren Ezzo and Noah Berman do a superb and professional job with the narration and enhance my love for Marguerite and Percy both as quirky and fun individuals and as a budding couple. I really hope their story is continued in new books to come.
