About this listen

In the aftermath of World War II, Francine “Fritzi” Fontaine longs to escape the stifling heat and segregated society in her home town. When she falls for Second Lieutenant Joe Stoddard, a cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps, she also finds her ticket to see the world.

Fritzi and Joe get married and fly off into the wild blue yonder, where he becomes a test pilot and Fritzi the quintessential Air Force Wife. Along the way, Fritzi gives birth to four children - two girls and two boys - while Joe moves up in rank and pays his dues as a pilot and officer. For a few short years, the Stoddards are a shiny, adventurous American Air Force family, living wherever Joe’s career takes them and blooming wherever they are planted. When they are transferred to a base in Italy, the Stoddards revel in the opportunity to explore Europe together. During the fireworks of an Italian festival, tragedy strikes, plunging the family into a free-fall of denial and grief. How will they navigate a future none of them ever imagined?

Beneath the wild blue

I absolutely loved this story of one familys life as an airforce family. From high school sweethearts to married with children,Fritzi and her husband weather the ups and downs of going where they were told and associating with whom they were told.It was sometimes hard for them or their children, but life is. Robin Siegerman was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A Powerful, Human Story

Wow. Anyone who grew up in the military life, like I did as an Air Force brat, will identify with this deeply moving family history. It's about much more than all the moves across the country and around the globe, but also a personal look at the effects that can have.
Robin Siegerman does an amazing job as narrator. Her characters pull you right into the story--she makes these people real! A totally absorbing work.

Was. Or All Roses

This takes you back to WW II, Giving one the insight of life in the Air Force. Of how it affected each of them, and the different surroundings. When a joyous occasion changed to a nightmare. The audio brought the emotions out and was well done. Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

So real

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another.
It seems to me this could be a realistic story about a real family. All the characters...their actions and reactions, their struggles, their character strengths and flaws...so true to life.
This is a great story with some historical insight.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Robin Siegerman ) and I would listen to another. Each character voice was distinct and she did well bringing out their emotions. It still had the feel of being read to, but yeh characters were well performed.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. There is some swearing.

Really well done!

We all have (or most of us) events that seem to completely change the trajectory of our life. The author did a wonderful job of showing that in this book.

Thoroughly enjoyed the narration; so important to have the right voice and tone in telling the story. This narration drew me right in and kept me there from beginning to end.

Highly recommend!
