Publisher's summary

When you get up in the morning, the last thing you expect to see is a murdered guy hanging outside your window. Things like that tend to draw the attention of the local police, and when you're squatting in your parents' old house until you can afford to buy it, another thing you can't afford is the attention of the cops.

Oh yeah. Hi. My name is Pet. It's not my real name, but it's the only one you're getting. Things like names are important these days.

And it's not so much that I'm Pet. I am a pet. A human pet: I belong to the two Behindkind fae and the pouty vampire who just moved into my house.

It's not weird, I promise - well, it is weird, yeah. But it's not weird weird, you know?

Loved it

This book is delightful and refreshing. The story is told by a first person perspective and a fae's pet. It's witty, you fall in love with the characters. At first, in chapter one, I had my doubts. By chapter two, I was hooked.

What an entertaining listen! 🎧 ⭐️❤️

Loved this first book and jumped right into the 2nd one and then the 3rd. Narration is fantastic and the story keeps moving along. Interesting world, magic, & plot. Highly recommend & it’s included in Plus catalog so what do you have to lose by trying.

Caught my attention from the start

I was looking for something different without all the soppy in love with a Fae story and this fit the bill! Mysterious and interesting. I still have questions, but not in a “I’m not satisfied way.” More of a I can’t wait for the next book way. Love the fairy godtrash man who keeps stealing her stuff. I can’t wait to find out who he is.

Loved it

Short, fun, quirky little urban fantasy involving a murder mystery, three unlikely supernatural allies investigating the murder, and a street smart orphan who becomes their "human pet." It was weirdly wholesome despite the murder and gore. Pet is very humorous and lends a lot of lightheartedness to the serious fae and vampire. Already queued up the rest of the series so I'll be ripping through it this week.

Listened to the audiobook and the narrator was SO GOOD: Zehra Jane Naqvi

Very light but intriguing

The protagonist called Pet has a snarky cocky attitude. Ok some holes in story like a street kid trying to save to buy the house she squats in but the write in the end has a twist on this seeming hole in plot. Set around Hobart Tasmania. Lots of local references that got me curious enough to go googling. On to book two series been out but the audio versions looked to have come out in 2019 on Audible.

Excellent

I've read this book a few times, but I found this narrator to have an excellent command of the different characters involved in the story. I live Pet, Jin-Yeong, Zero and Athelas with their various personalities and foibles, and Detective Tuatu is fun. Love this series.

Funny and entertaining.

Looking forward to the rest of the series. I got confused in a couple sections and had to re-listen to those parts but overall I really enjoyed this book.

Original and Flamin Fantastic!

This book is worth the read and/or the listen! Main character stays true to self, which blows away a lot of stereotypes. I've read the series and have respect for W.R Gingell, fun, humorous and sometimes downright deadly.
