About this listen

How do you take on the most powerful organization of the supernatural world?

One death at a time.

A thousand years in the making, the Council finally has created their strongest weapon. What they didn’t expect was for her to target them. Forged by the pits of the underworld, Brooklyn plays her part all too well until the assassination of her friend. It was meant to send Brooklyn a message. What it did instead was unleash an uncontrolled rage that threatens the Council’s very existence.

Each target tips the moral compass and realigns who is friend and who is foe.

Unified by necessity, and driven by revenge, Brooklyn finds herself part of an unlikely trio: a vampire, a human and a shifter. Together, they are set on destroying an ancient evil that had nothing to oppose it until now.

The Council has finally met its match.

No one expects what happens next.

Black Hand is the gritty first book in the Infernal Regions for the Unprepared urban fantasy series. If you like strong female characters, fast-paced action, and snark for days, then you’ll love Maya Daniels’ pulse-pounding tale.

Virtual Voice is a failure

I hated virtual voice. It constantly kept saying the wrong word and that throws off the story

n/a

I do not like the Ai reading. there is no true personality. it like white noise with no true human inflections. the interpretation is flat.
I wasn't able to get to the crux of the story.

AI hard to follow/listen to, needs to be read not listened to.

the AI does not give any intonation to when the character switches.. or when it switches from describing a character or scene to the character talking to someone ( another character) in the story. it makes it sound like a first grader whom is just learning to read out loud.. but doesn't change the pitch of voice when its needed for scene changes and character changes.. it just drones on and on.. . hard to follow unless really paying attention to what's being said. I think this book would be SOOOO MUCH BETTER IF THEY GOT SOMEONE TO CHANGE CHARACTER VOICES AND NARRATIVE VOICE. not a drone on and on and on and on.... kinda voice.. I feel sorry for the Author getting so many bad reviews for the book because the narrative voice is soooooo bad... please someone fix this issue. I want to hear this book it seems to have a good story line..

great story

I really like the storyline, my only qualm was the narration. it was pretty good for being AI narration but I'll be excited to see you if the author has a human narrator for the next book would make it a thousand times better. that being said I will still listen to the second book even if it is an AI narrator lol

Not good

The "virtual voice" narration was horrible. It didn't fluctuate at all; between characters or to punctuate words (when needed).

The writing/sentences also did not flow. Ideas and details where broken up by other thoughts.

Honestly, this was a free book. In hopes of getting the listener to buy the 2nd. But if the 2nd book was also free, I wouldn't listen to it.

The narrator is AWFUL

I couldn't get through more than a couple chapters of this, and I always finish books. The narrator is just awful- weird pauses and cadence, no emotion, and impossible to listen to and actually enjoy or even pay attention to the book. Easily the worst audible book I've ever "read", and I've got over 2,000 books in my audible library, so that's saying something. I actually went back to check the narrator so I can avoid her in the future, and realized that it was an AI narrator. On the one hand, at least I dont feel guilty for just a bad review now, but yeah, it now all makes sense. This is one job you should leave to humans. Yuck.
