About this listen

All Maxine needs is a name.

Just one piece of information could help Maxine mend a past mistake and let go of her broken past. That name she needs? Her father's murderer. Not because she harbors any tender feelings toward the bastard who beat her mother into a coma. She's desperate to know his last words.

She's steadily clawing down obstacles one lie, one trap at a time...until she encounters a brick wall without a single chink in it. Blu, the enforcer guarding the Blackwater Renegades MC's front door. A tattooed, mohawked mountain of muscle whose ice-blue gaze sets her belly on fire.

Blu's past shadows his future.

After fighting for his freedom in an underground fighting pit, Blu traded wrapped knuckles for a Blackwater Renegades cut. Now, he puts his bruised fists to good use against rival gangs.

When he's tasked with seducing Maxine, the enigmatic newcomer, to uncover her motives, Blu discovers there's more to this dagger-glaring, snark-spewing beauty than meets the eye. They share a deep well of unresolved pain that could make him drop his guard...and question his loyalties to the only people he's ever known as family.

Fair warning: This is not a book for listeners who can't handle cliffhangers.

Great

I really liked this book and would recommend it. It had a great storyline and sexual storylines. I can't wait to hear more of their story and I wish this book was a movie or TV show. Really liked those BWMCs and I bet all their stories are going to be hot. I hope all of the stories are on audible.

A nice mix of violence and sex

I enjoyed this audiobook and I'd definitely listen to it again. Overall, I enjoyed Max and Blu's story; they had chemistry and the attraction seemed obvious from the beginning. I hope to find out more about who she's looking for and how she actually finds this person. It's a short story, but things still move at a decent pace, not rushed. It does connect the previous story and leads you into whatever will come next. I hope there can eventually be a happy ending for them.

I don't believe I've ever listened to any of Patrick Zeller's work, but he was good. I have listened to Adenrele Ojo, and she was also good. There were a few errors regarding the names of characters, but not enough to be a huge problem. Also, not so keen on the Irish accent during the few times it was utilized. However, that could be because I'm comparing it to the previous book/narrator.

Double cliffhanger

Overall I liked max and Blue’s story; however, I did not like Maxine. She was ridiculous! She was going to take on a MC but didn’t expect to break the law, to commit murder, to get hurt or worse. Are you kidding me. She is willing to do whatever to find a killer to get answers and then what. I get her motivation but geez Louise have some common sense. I am not mad at the author for portraying Max this way mainly because I work in corrections and see women who behave this way all the time, so they do exist. If this was a book I might have stopped reading because of her ridiculousness but the audiobook helped with the story and I will read the third installment just to see what happens with not only Max and Blue but also Mia and Spooky.

I received this audiobook free for an honest review.

Patrick's voice for Blue!!!

First of all, I love Inger Iversen's books. The road to HEA is never easy for her main characters. If they even get that. A lot of the times they are HFN.

I had already read Blackwater Deceiver when it first came out and fell in love with the characters of these shorts. The Blackwater series is kind of a spin-off from another one of Inger's series that I loved. None of the characters are ever perfect. That is perfection in itself. Blu and Maxine were both flawed but shared an attraction they couldn't act on. Both have pasts that they found hard to live with and I am as hooked on this story as I was with Mia and Smokey's story.

The narrators of this story. both Patrick and Adenrele did a great job bringing Blu and Maxine/Gypsy's characters to life. But, oh my goodness, Patrick's voice was so sexy and smooth and it sounded like that is exactly how Blu would sound if you heard him speak. Both narrators were awesome.

All in all, this was a great listen and I am glad I was fortunate enough to be given this book for my honest review.

Intrigued!

Inger has done it again. This was a well developed and written story. Just enough information in the beginning to get you hooked and just enough left out at the end to make you need to come back!

A quick novella with a double cliffhanger!

I jumped into this series with this book, the second installment. I was able to get the gist of characters and background of the MC fairly easy. In this novella, the focus is on Maxine and Blu. I definitely recommend reading the prologue as it may seem to not have anything to do with the story in the beginning, but the ending has it come full circle. There were a few areas throughout where I did find myself a little confused, but that might be because of the narration. Where the female POV was sharp and grabbed my attention, I lost a little focus when it switched over to the male POV because the narration didn’t have the same presence and to me, seemed quieter and more monotone. Beware of the double cliffhanger… there’s definitely more to Maxine and Blu and hopefully we get the conclusion soon!

Such a great story!

I don't often listen to audiobooks because the narrators can sometimes ruin the feel of a book. That was not the case with this book.

First things first, the story... Blu is such a complex character. I was completely entranced in his backstory and am excited about the possibility of learning more about him. Maxine is an equally complex character with strong motivations and a relentless drive to go after what she wants. The two of them together … FIRE

Please keep in mind that this is a short. It was just enough to get me hooked and ready for a full length novel. I really want to be able to spend more time with the characters and see where the story takes us.

The narrators did a good job with the pace and tone and didn't distract me from what was going on with the book.

The only criticism I have is that foreign accents aren't for everyone. When the narrator tried to do the Spooky (Irish) character's voice she sounded more like a mix of Jamaican and something else. Overall though it was a great performance and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series.
