About this listen
Tithing and offering are deeply biblical practices that have played a central role in Christian understanding and practice throughout history. They are seen as acts of worship, expressions of faith, and means of supporting the work of the Church. While their specific implementation may vary among different Christian denominations, the foundational principles of stewardship, generosity, and support for God's work remain a shared part of Christian belief and practice.
Tithing and offering are foundational aspects of Christian faith and practice with deep biblical roots that have transcended time. These practices have been central to the Christian understanding of stewardship and generosity for centuries. Tithing and offering, two significant practices in Christian faith, draw their origins from distinct parts of the Bible, embodying both tradition and contemporary principles of giving.
While the specific practices and interpretations of tithing and offering may vary among Christian denominations, their foundational principles remain a shared part of Christian understanding. These practices not only provide vital financial support for the church's ministries and charitable work, but also serve as a means of expressing devotion, trust, and gratitude to God.
Throughout Christian history, tithing and offering have been seen as acts of worship, reflections of faith, and tangible ways to support the work of the Church. They underscore the interconnectedness of faith and generosity, emphasizing the importance of financial stewardship within the Christian journey. Ultimately, tithing and offering serve as enduring testimonies to the Christian commitment to honor God with our resources and to extend compassion and support to those in need.
About the Author
Dr. David K. Ewen is an ordained minister, who has been actively involved in the collection and teaching of tithes and offerings within the context of his ministry since 2012. His dedication to this aspect of Christian stewardship reflects a deep commitment to both the spiritual and practical dimensions of faith.
As an ordained minister, Dr. David K. Ewen likely understands the significance of tithing and offering in the context of the Christian faith. Tithing, which involves giving a 10th of one's income to the church, and offering, which often involves voluntary and generous giving beyond the tithe, are practices deeply rooted in Christian tradition. These acts of financial stewardship play a vital role in supporting the work of the church, funding ministries, outreach programs, and various charitable endeavors.
Dr. Ewen's role in collecting tithes and offerings within his ministry showcases his responsibility as a spiritual leader. Collecting these contributions involves a sacred trust between the congregation and the leadership, ensuring that the resources are used for the betterment of the church and its mission.

Story
The Western church finds itself in the midst of a seismic cultural shift, as secular paradigms threaten to remove any spiritual explanation for life, and Christianity is often viewed with skepticism and cynicism. Rather than perceiving these ongoing challenges as irritants to expel, it’s time to see them as opportunities to embrace, so that we might effectively serve the world around us and form a more robust and Christlike church.

Story
Being a pastor is a complicated calling. Pastors are often pulled in multiple directions and must "become all things to all people" (1 Cor. 9:22). What does the New Testament say (or not say) about the pastoral calling? And what can we learn about it from the apostle Paul? According to popular New Testament scholar Scot McKnight, pastoring must begin first and foremost with spiritual formation, which plays a vital role in the life and ministry of the pastor. As leaders, pastors both create and nurture culture in a church.

Story
For some people “Pentecostal” is a new word. Although it has become much more common in recent years, its roots go back to an ancient Jewish feast and, more recently, to the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the earliest Christian believers. Because this initial outpouring of the Spirit took place on the Day of Pentecost, those who experience a similar infilling of the Spirit are known as Pentecostals. They look to the book of Acts as a guide for how to live out their Christian faith.

God is a perfect father who looks for chances to pour blessings into the lives of his children. But he is also a father who loves us and doesn’t want to increase our blessing beyond what we have the heart and maturity to carry well. What does it look like when significance is carried well? God is glorified, we are strengthened, and the people around us benefit.

Families and communities are increasingly fragmented, loneliness is skyrocketing, and physical and mental health are on the decline. Our unprecedented wealth doesn't seem to be doing us much good. A generation of young Christians are weary of the political legacy they've inherited and are hungry for a better approach. They're tired of seeing their faith tied to political battles they didn't start, and they're frustrated with leaders they thought they could trust. Kaitlyn Schiess grew up in this landscape and understands it from the inside. In The Liturgy of Politics, Schiess shows that the church's politics are shaped by its habits and practices, even when it's unaware of them.

Story
Many pastors struggle to translate their theological beliefs into fruitful ministry in the places they are called to reach. It’s not enough to simply know what to believe (theology), or on the other hand, how to do ministry (methodology) - they need something in between. They need help thinking about ministry in a culture that no longer believes Christianity is a force for good, let alone the source of ultimate revealed truth in the person of Christ.

Best-selling author J. I. Packer, one of the most influential evangelicals of our day, has put together what may become a Christian classic on the vital truths of the faith. Serving to nourish the church worldwide, Packer makes accessible the things we need to know in eight essential areas. This concise book also helps us guard against liberalism by pushing Christians to know their faith so they can explain it to inquirers and sustain it against skeptics. Here is a call to a discipleship in mere Christianity - the business of taking God seriously.

Story
Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.

Not my normal listen.
I don't normally listen to books like this. This has to be the best book on this subject I've listened to. I think that the narrator made the book though.

Explains a lot
The book definitely explained the reasoning being the offering to the church. This is not something I would normally listen to, but C. L. Burns kept it interesting.
