About this listen

Bloodmines is Book 3 in the groundbreaking series The Blue Dragon's Geas, which begins with Outcast (Book 1) and moves on to The Blackguard.

Alador discovers that there is more to his geas and the bloodstone than he had ever imagined. As its true nature is revealed, he alone must figure out how to complete the geas. His first task is to obtain the support of the one dragon that he and Henrick know how to find. But... how does one garner support from a dragon you have previously shot?

Follow Alador as he sets out to gain the support of the dragon, dodge Lerdenian politics and his scheming uncle, at the same time as he attempts to come to terms with the continued ripples that one large bloodstone has brought into his life.

A GOOD book Ruined by . . .

What did you like best about Bloodmines? What did you like least?

I'm enjoying the series by Cheryl Matthynssens-- the first book was very enjoyable, this second book is probably also good, but the narrator makes it almost impossible to appreciate.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Hiring a different narrator . . . my dog for instance.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Oh boy . . . where do I start. I'm sure Jimmie Moreland is a nice guy, and he actually does accents pretty well, but he has absolutely RUINED this book for me. His incorrect use of emphasis within a sentence, and the overly slow, stuttering, robotic reading is excruciating. I'm listening to the book on 1.25 speed just to be able to finish it. Seriously, did anyone LISTEN to this guy before giving him the job?! I can tell you this -- I'm going to avoid any book with his name attached as narrator . . .Again, probably the nicest guy in the world, but dude, take some vocal lessons or something.

Was Bloodmines worth the listening time?

The book itself was . . .but, and I repeat myself, it was ruined by the narrator for me.

Any additional comments?

It would only be fair to say that the narrator of the first book wasn't great, but I wasn't moved to write a review about it in the middle of listening to it as I have with this one. . .To the Author, and Authors everywhere: I'm begging you to be extremely picky about WHO narrates your precious material -- I don't know what the process is for choosing someone, and perhaps there's a shortage of good readers, but the best book in the world is made into crap when read by a bad narrator . . .

Great Author Great Book, Bad Narrator

If you could sum up Bloodmines in three words, what would they be?

Captivating, Inspiring, Great

What other book might you compare Bloodmines to and why?

I would closely relate these books with the inheritance series although these books were better written.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jimmie Moreland?

Paul Woodson did an outstanding job on the first two books. Jimmie Moreland was not a good narrator. Jimmie just didn't bring the story to life the way Paul Woodson did.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were a few places where I laughed.

Any additional comments?

This series was one of the best i have read in some time.

Good book, bad narrator

The cadence of the narrator is off putting and distracting. But the book is still worth it listening to. Reading it would probably be better.
