About this listen

Returning home from a trip to Paris, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles confronts a nightmarish scene. Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound. Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches. Only when Maura looks at the victim does she understand why everyone is so shocked by her arrival. The dead woman looks exactly like Maura. Within a week, the DNA lab delivers a stunning verdict: the dead woman is Maura's twin. A twin she never knew she had. Detective Jane Rizzoli, now eight months pregnant, tackles the case as chief investigator. But for Maura, this murder is far more personal and frightening.©2004 Tess Gerritsen (P)2004 Books on Tape, Inc. Mystery Suspense

Rizzoli & Isles always slays

Even though I figured out who dun it before the end, the PROCESS in a Tess Gerritsen Rizzoli & Isles story is worth sticking it out. As, always, the characters are vibrant, engaging, and even chilling. If you like cop fiction-murder mysteries you will like this!

Disappointed

I read many books by this author in high school and I was excited to return to it as an easy reread. I was quite disappointed. This book is shocking misogynistic at times despite having female main character. They both rudely describe any woman they find too “girly” or “Barbie” and there are little to none female side characters who aren’t stereotypes. On top of this, while the story is interesting, it relies on ableism and stigmas against mental health. Overall, I wouldn’t be diving back into the rest of her bibliography.

Great listen, lots of twists

I like mysteries and this one had surprises all the way through. The characters were interesting, and I could not put it down. I though the narrator did a good job; I specifically liked the voice of Detective Jane Rizzoli; the Boston accent reminded me of my years there.

The main character is a medical examiner, so there is quite a bit of gore; but it is presented clinically, so there is some detachment there. Good writing, fast paced plot and strong characters. What more could you want?

I like this author but.....

This book has a good story line but seems drawn out. The Narrator is terrible. She sounds like a 12 year old reading a book with no feeling for the character. They all sound the same. I will continue to listen to books by this author but hopefully she'll change narrators.

Needlessly Complicated; Still Good

After the very weak The Sinner; the number three book in the Rizzoli and Isles series; book four Body Double was a nice recovery. The book goes into a great deal of detail about the genetic background of Moira Isles, her parents, as well as the underside of private adoption in general; hers in particular. A minor character in the book, in her own understated way, comes off as one of the toughest, most heroic characters in any book. An example of the courage of ordinary human beings just living and doing their best. I do have a couple of complaints; there are far too many instances of brain rot where experienced law enforcement officers take forever to ascertain simple facts; facts I figured out almost as soon as I heard them. In addition Anna Fields, she's an excellent reader normally but she continually pronounced Rizzoli, Ritz-oli; as many times as the name is used in the book it became really irritating. Still, this is one of the better books in the series, if you like unrealistic, overly detailed, but still well written police procedurals, you could do worse.
