About this listen

Award-winning author Mark Spragg writes about the American West with unmatched skill and vision. In Bone Fire Spragg weaves the tale of Ishawooa, Wyoming, a city marred by the realities of modern life. Sheriff Crane Carlson is having enough trouble with his pot-addled and alcoholic wife when he finds a teen murdered in a meth lab. Violence seems to be exploding all over the small town, but even as the situation spirals out of control, Carlson finds moments of compassion and beauty.

The trilogy runs in this order
1. The Fruit Of Stone
2. An Unfinished Life
3. Bone Fire

Not knowing that it was a trilogy, I read the last first and I believe I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read them in the proper order. With that said, Unfinished lives was perfection and I’m happy I finished with such a strong novel.
Fruit of Stone is excellent, although a bit disjointed. I enjoyed Mark Spragg reading it, but felt it may have been more successful overall had a seasoned narrator taken charge. I kept wanting to hear Will Pattons voice playing the parts. In “An unfinished life” the two narrators are spot on and everything flows great.
Bone fire is a wrap up, but very enjoyable.

Very Important!!! This is the THIRD in a trilogy!

Not much to say, but I do have another book by this author "An Unfinished Life", which I will say is way more Western than this book is, and is very good btw. This is a good book also, but is very far from being a Western, it is about people, and their everyday lives. Yes, there is some talk, and experiences about horses in it. Don't let the mediocre rating diswade you from experiencing this book, I did enjoy it, it just wasn't what I expected from this author.

This Is Not A Western

This novel brought back such childhood memories from front to back of my years on the far with my grandparents. The author capture untold snippets of folk who make their life off the land. The narrator was perfect for the role and his transitions from character to character were flawless. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I love these characters and the writing and the story. It is sad but beyond that, it’s wonderful.

A bit depressing but very real…

Too many characters. No obvious separation between storylines. couldn’t keep up. Ending was awful. Won’t be listening to this author again.

Depressing, confusing, and plotless
