About this listen

Life as a bodyguard and driver for the rich, famous, and powerful is dangerous on a good day, and after sustaining a crippling injury while on duty, Janette’s left with few options. Having signed a "for life" contract but unable to work, she uses her skills to disappear.

Her new life as a librarian suits her. Nobody cares she limps and sometimes requires a cane to walk. She’s wanted for her knowledge, not her lethal magic. She’s surrounded by books, a woman’s best friend. But when her former employer’s best friend is murdered on the steps of her library, old loyalties and secrets might destroy her—or set her free.

Teaming up with her co-workers to find the killer might keep her from being booked for murder, but unless she’s careful, she’ll find out exactly how far her ex-boss will go to reclaim what is rightfully his.

Her. For life.

How did I miss this series when it came out? The book starts with blood splashing 2 stories high covering the front of a library. These are not your mother’s librarians. This world of magic is well put together and constantly amused and surprises. Well worth a credit or even cash.

Fun and Orange Chicken

I first read this series and upon finding it in audible I bought it. Great story and characters. I love the magic in this world and am curious to see where the author will take the story. I am also secretly hoping she spins off to other stories like she did with her romantic comedy with a body count series.

Love this series!

Enthralling world building! Lead characters are to love and admire. It scares me that the political backstory could really happen, particularly under President Trump if he had been elected for another term. Power and greed really are the mainstay of most politicians over the local level. It’s a deep story with lots of twists and turns. Buy the series. I heard that there’s another sequel coming before the end of 2004!
It’s intended to be a trilogy but I hope it continues for several more books.

RJ Blain at her best

I so very loved this!
I’m disabled, and found the author did an amazing job of showing and explaining what life is like from that perspective.
The fact that Jeanette had to completely change her life to cope with her new circumstances, and how it alienated her from her loved ones.

The fact that the story also features librarians with skills needed to become a vigilante group is hilarious and just plausibly realistic is entertaining.

Warning!! You really should love cats if you listen to this book. Ajonni is a character in her own right and is worshipped as the despotic feline overlord she is.

I can’t wait to read the next book!

Fabulous portrayal of life as a Disabled Person

I couldn’t listen to it because it sounded like a AI was reading it. It might be a good book but I just couldn’t listen to it. Only got through 5 chapters and couldn’t take it anymore.

AI narrator?

This book sounded like it had some action in it but I felt that it had next to none. There was more dialogue than investigation and action in it than I liked. Still enjoyable but a letdown.

A lot more dialogue than I was expecting
