Publisher's summary

Marriage or war. There are no other options.

Kalina has her throne, finally, and her people have their long-sought-after peace. But that peace is short-lived, when an old enemy resurfaces, threatening everything she has fought so hard to attain. Trapped in a foreign court, surrounded by enemies, Kalina must decide the fate of her people as well as her own future before it’s too late. Love is at stake, lives will be lost. This is the stunning conclusion to the Valdir Chronicles, full to the brim with adventure, intrigue, and, of course, dragons.

Adventure and romance

This was a really special series and I enjoyed this third book a lot. The action and adventure coupled by the meaningful friendships and romance all packed together to make for a really compelling listen. The writing is very well done and paced nicely. All together it was very enjoyable. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Amazing ending!

Soo much happens. Kalina finds herself in Askor trying to negotiate with the king and finding things hard and uneasy. The only light in the dark is meeting Prince Simon. He does not seem like his father at all. It seems like things might work out between them if it weren’t for the harsh demands his father is making. When suddenly her worst fears happen. How will she overcome her newest challenge??? It’s awesome!! Such a good trilogy, really amazing ending!
I recommend to all dragon, fantasy, adventure lovers!

A great ending.

A wonderful addition to a series. It kept me wanting more and at the same time it tied up the story.

Hard to Put Down Action Packed Conclusion

Kalina goes through SOOO much in one short year.... the time frames don't seem to add up or feel very realistic. Even with that said, this series is addictive because you do get attached to the characters and need to know how it all turns out. The story is on the dark / sad side of the fantasy realm. The author does a great job in terms of the character development and world building side.

These books have stayed clean of bad language and although there is battle violence it's not overly graphic or too gory. I will admit to feeling a bit frustrated and disappointed that this final book goes political with a sudden LGBT push that's just thrown in with two separate couples that are friends to or cousins to Kalina and just like Star Wars final celebration scene had to push it, but in terms of romance out side of kissing between couples but there are no sex scenes.

The narrator does a great job and was fun to listen to.

This the third and final book in the series.

This is the third and final book in the series. These books are well written. I have listened to all three of them Elizabeth DeVault has done an excellent job narrating their stories. RA Lewis is my new favorite author. These stories are full of adventure and intrigue you can lost in them for hours.

Baskerville Book Reviews

It had a beginning, it had a middle and now it has an end. I’m sad to see this series go. It’s rare that I get invested in a book or series, let alone this quickly. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in this world and with these characters.

The start of book 3 gave me whiplash. There was so much back and forth court drama and politics, for the most part, it felt like that’s all there was. It added a level of realism but was also exhausting. It really didn’t get exciting until the last 3~ hours. One interesting thing about this story is how you could cut the last few hours off and create 5 different endings, all of which would be equally as compelling. (5, more or less. I’m just throwing a random number out there.)

This series reminded me a lot of Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle. A race of people and Dragons hiding in the wilderness that are magically bonded, facing an uphill struggle against a tyrant king. Maybe it was inspired by or maybe this is just a fantasy trope I was previously unaware of. Either way, I think if you enjoy the Inheritance Cycle, you’ll enjoy this as well.

The only thing about this story that I disliked was when the characters bring up a prophecy and then nothing ever cums of it. It really felt like it was foreshadowing and I kept waiting for it to cum to fruition and ….. nothing. I could easily see this series continuing or other books being set in this world. It really could have built up to something more. That being said, I think the ending was well done and left off with a satisfying conclusion to this 3 book, 1 novella adventure.

As with the other 3 stories in this series, the narrator did a great job of bringing this world and characters to life. She really acted out the lines and gave depth and personality to the characters with her line delivery.
